I am looking at a 3869942 block with 4 bolt mains. I know this block was used in 1966 in the Corvettes with the 425HP 427's. What throws me is the AS code behind the partial Vin, and an Rh stamping below the partial Vin. Does anybody know what these suffix stampings are? Thanks Frank

Frank, These AS and Rh stamps are not original. I have never seen them before in 30 years working on Corvettes. I have personaly inspected lots of 66 corvette 425hp engine pads and have never seen anything other than the Tonawanda stamp or the partial vin stamp. example-
T0422IP 6121310
Please note that corvette engine pad vin stamps only used the year-6 and then the vin of the car-121310. They did not use the plant designation. The engine stamp should be 3/16 font size and the vin should be 5/32.
My ex boss had a 66 427/425HP and his as well as another i just overhauled did not have any extra numbers or fonts.
Hope this helps. Mike.

We have a '66 Vette unit in here presently and as Mike (rszmjt) states, he's exactly correct. The '942 block, a pair of '858 heads, and the '069 intake. If you were wise you would "off" the block on a "heads-up" trade for ANY aftermarket block of your choice! Thanks Gary in N.Y.

P.S. The code as we have it here is TO405IP and then the serial number, 6121XXX. Those are the only digits on the pad! We also believe the 858 heads may be the rarest of all, then the 208's then the 391's, in that order.

Frank, Post the numbers off the pad so we can determine if it is in fact a Corvette block.
As mjs-13 stated these 942 blocks were also used in passenger cars, the suffix would be ID.

Thanks Guys. rszmjt, I had forgotton that you have a lot of experience with Corvettes. I do recall the 427s in the Biscaynes. I am going to have another look at this engine and will make sure I record all the numbers. No mistakes. Frank

Frank ,I have seen both A and B lettering[sometimes even 3 digits] on 942 and 351 blocks. They are marine useage. I bought 2 years ago from a boat marina on the coast and they were stamped A and B. One other time i had a 942 "BBA" stamped from a boat.

Huh? I never new they used #942 and #351 big block chevs in boats back in 1966/67. Guess i learned something new. Thanks.
