I bought a new gm restoration spoiler for my 1969 camaro (original not equipped with a spoiler). After inspecting it, I noticed that were the spoiler touches the trunk it has a sort of rim with fins, which makes the actual spoiler sit up about 1/4". Has anyone installed these types of spoiler before? Do u leave the fin/rim? Does anyone have a close up picture of a rear spoiler installed?
Help, thanks!
Gabe

Mine is that way. I'm no expert on it, but I think it is to let rain flow under the spoiler instead of collecting in a puddle on the back of the trunk lid.

I can snap a pic tonight when I get home.

Gabe they do sit up on those little nubbins I call them. Not sure if these views help, I dont have a real close up of the spoiler mounted. Randy is probably right on the reason for them being up a little.

All the spoilers I've seen on First Gens sit up like that. Even if they didn't, some people put some type of gasket between the 'nubbins' and the decklid which would raise them slightly anyway.

Plus, if the decklid didn't sit just right, the spoiler might hit the tops of the quarters.

'Nubbins'.... I gotta remember that one.

yes all the spoilers sit up 1/4 inch
the only difference with the original and aftermarket spoiler is one is made from same mold but in china or some place like that.
Add camaros that were made in the first month of the 69 year had shorter spoilers than the ones youll see.( used up the 68 spoilers before using the 69s)

Its also a good idea to use some type of sealer around the holes on the decklid (I use a thin bead of windhield butyl), between the lid and the spoiler. Will help keep any water from getting into the trunk.
