A 461xxx VIN would put the car near the end of May, engine was assembled in June.

I dont know much about 68 Zs, so maybe this is something that is somewhat common with them?

Very interesting car. I have dealt with the seller one time and felt the need to return a "NOS" part. No questions asked with freight returned too.

Engine stamping looks good to me also.

Was there some type of holdover on these like the June 67 Zs?
06D and V0620MO, dates look fine. If you're looking at the GM monthly VIN report, the end of 68 has issues. No idea why, but they reported data that doesn't match up with other records.....

Engine code looks OK. No explanation on the VIN on the pad....
Car has been changed. Pics show that it probably wasn't even dark green but gold originally. I highly doubt the stripes were a different color (probably stripe delete), the spraybombed underside that matches the stripe backs that up.

does that carburetor look it caught on fire at some point?

Just an old 1850 series low cfm carb, may have backfired, blown the pv out a few time but not fire.

I would question the engine stamp. Is the seller claiming the paint is original?
If you look closely at the pics, you can tell the car has had one repaint, maybe british green, but still one repaint. Maybe he doesnt know the history of the car, but I would ask him, and see if he says its been repainted. IF not, then he doesnt have knowledge of factory camaros. The guy may be telling what he knows, but if he doesnt know something, how would he know to tell you that the previous owner of the car removed the rear bumper guards???
Also, the shifter and know are wrong. If you are interested in buying the car, email me and I will tell you how to tell if the tach is correct? As for the special paint code, it doesnt apply to stripes; either blk,wht or none. The engine code stamp looks more real than not, so its a MO block, but the VIn stamp story I dont buy, cause there are two flaws in it, one digit and the N is missing. It looks like someone tried stamping the vin in one digit at a time. It is a nice clean undercarriage.

A definite driver and a nice project. But, blackened carb is due to alot of backfiring, not alittle.

Aftermarket oil pan, too deep for stock. I think it has more than 18K miles, look at the rear axle buildup. As said, non-stock Hurst shifter.

I'd buy it in a heartbeat if I could purchase. Just my thoughts. Seller could at least bought a correct gas cap.

"The car was always dark green, as the original paint is under the weather strips." That was a quote from his auction. He knows Camaros. He has been a intelligent buyer of Camaro parts on Ebay for a long time.
Who would be dumb enough to stamp a engine that wrong and then age it to perfection ? If I were in the market for a project Z28 I would have no problem with this car. I don't believe the 18K miles are real but I do believe the engine stamping and like all the detailed pics.

Clill, Whats wrong with the engine?? Its date correct to the trim tag, so it makes for a good restamp "numbers matching" engine to car! The engine has a lot of 68Z parts on it so it looks original with a fast glance. The VIN stamp on the block is too messed up. Im not saying the seller knows its a restamp and is trying to pass it off as original. He's probably an honest guy. I believe the car may even have just 18k on it due to the clean undercarriage(I have a 36k car). If the block is a restamp block, and its a real Z, then its probably worth 15-20k at least in its current condition. If the block is the original block, and its a real Z, then its worth 25-35 as is. If I was to buy it, I would write down everything the seller is stating is original and real, Z or not, and time frame given 30-60 days to check out car and history, or 100% money back(if cant go preview it in person). If he honestly believes its a Z, he should have no problem putting it in writing!!!!!!
