Who's all done this? What do I need to look out for? Need to replace lower half of tail pan so I plan on putting the full floor in from that direction.

Also full floors are setup for '67 shock mounts, how much work is there to alter the floor into a staggered 68 shock mount location? Or can I just mount the shocks in the 67's stock positions?

Any and all info greatly appreciated!

I thought the staggered shock mounting arrangement was a design improvement for 1968. The staggered arrangement was intended to greatly reduce wheel hop on 'hard' accelleration.... I'm looking at the same issue with my '68 and will try to convert the '67 style pan to a 68 with the new shock tower replacements available for the '68. It shouldn't be too hard - some cutting and fitting involved but I'll bet it can be done outside the car for easy access....

I was wondering if the complete trunk includes the entire shock mount area. Looking up at the shock tower from underneath the car it looks like the shock tower has two layers, the top layer being the trunk pan and a bottom layer that can be seen up inside the wheelwell which looks like it extends over the frame rails and over to the other shock mount? My shock towers are rotted around the shock underneath but don't look as bad up top inside the trunk. Thanks.

For what it's worth. When we did ours, we didn't replace the whole panel we kept the "sides" and the area around the the fuel tank fillerintact and simply replaced the bottom as it was the only part that was rusted. We used a new part but just cut it to suite. My car has never been hit so I didn't want to risk it. As it is now it looks original and I'm really happy with the job.

Sometimes I think it's not worth replacing the whole panel because you can do more damage removing it that would occur if you just used the replacment panel as a patch.

Were you referring to my post about what would be needed in addition to the complete trunk pan. I have a 67' and the shock support/mounts are rotted up underneath the wheel well. Thanks.

What you see from underneath is the rear shock crossmember( 67 is different from 68 &69, due to shock mounts). If you look on my website under 68 Firebird Link http://1stgencamaro.net/gallerytwo/v/Firebird-400/?g2_page=4 , there are pics of 67 pan install/conversion. I chose to splice it at the rear crossmember so the repair would be easier to finish, not having a seam to hide under neath the car . I was fixing someone else's HACK job and did not have a rust issue.

If your lower crossmember is rotted, you will have to either use the 67 non staggered shock set up( Gm went to staggered shocks to combat wheel hop/ axle wind up, thus the 67 traction bar ) . The other option is to find a 68 or 69 donor part. I may be able to set you up with my buddy who has a couple of parts cars. Don't know what he would charge, thats will be between you and him.

For 67 you are golden.... the full dynacorn® pan comes with the crossmember aready spot welded to the trunk pan. the only thing you have to install are the 2 small shock mount reinforcements, on top of the trunk pan.
Here's a pic of the 67crossmember and front section of trunk floor, I cut off for my 68 conversion
FYI the 69 pan also comes with the correct crossmember for the staggered shocks, spot welded to the full pan .

Thank you, that is good news! I appreciate everyone's help, Eric.
