No this is not a joke!

I have a v8 engine and box for my 2nd gen Camaro. Having a look over the gearbox I cant find where the kick down cable would go!

Does this mean that my box has an electrical kick down?:clonk:

Or are there any casting numbers etc I should be identifying?

Cheers

The easiest way to ID your GM automatic is by the shape of the pan. Here is a link:

http://www.chevcarclubvic.org.au/technical/gm_transmission_identification.htm

The TH400 uses an electric kickdown, and has 3 forward speeds. The T350 uses a cable kickdown and also has 3 forward speeds The Powerglide uses a rod linkage for kickdown, and has 2 forward speeds. The TH700R4 and TH2004R use the throttle valve cable for kickdown, and have 4 forward speeds, including overdrive - the TV cable also controls other vital transmission functions, and proper set-up is critical to their survival.

I believe that its a TH400 as has electronic kick down and shape of pan is that shown on the link

How do I utalise the electronic kick down on a car that previously was cable kick down

upgrading from v6 engine to v8 350 lump

cheers

I think a tranny guy on the web said one time that a TH400 when GM first brought them out would last being worked HARD for better than 250,000 and years later, after the "Bean-counters" got through adding plastic parts and nickel and diming it to death, it was good for about 125,000 light-duty miles!!

Seem's GM figured out they were lasting TOO long so went purposely about CHEAPENING them up.

But even with the penny pinching accountants the th400 is good for 600 bhp roughly isnt it?
Well some where round that figure without modification that is?
but then i dont have a fully tricked up engine only have edelbrock performer intake manifold with 4 brl rochester and tubular headers.
