Ok, I have a question for those guys out there using a 427 SBC GEN I Block Iron or Aluminum. I am thinking about assembling an Aluminum 427 using either a Dart or World Block. This engine will be used as a daily driver and be taken on long trips, hopefully Power Tour. Can you guys give me some pros and cons to these blocks? I spoke with both tech departments and they both had good points to there products. The Dart seems to be the better block, however the Motownlite seems to be closer to a stock 400, which in the end could prove to be a better deal. The list kind of went like this.

.................................Dart............. ..........................Motownlite

Different Deck Heights....Yes.................................... ...No
Stock Oil Pan set up.......No (wide spread rail)................Yes....(Stock)
BBC Cam Core...............Yes............................ ...........No.....(Stock)
Stock Oil Filter..............No............................ ...........Yes.....(Stock)
Square Block................Yes.......................... .............No
Intake Height Stock.......No.................................... ....Yes....(Stock)
Stock Height Distributor..No................................... .....Yes....(Stock)
Special Head Studs........Yes.................................. .....No
Special Custom Cam.......Yes..................................... ..No Small Base Cir
Special Timing Gear........Yes................................... ....No
Weight.........................95 lbs...................................100 lbs
Billet Steel Splayed Mains.Yes......................................Yes
Material:.......................355-T6 aluminum....................357-T6 aluminum
Sleeve________________.250_______________________. 250" @ 4.155 bore
Raised Cam....................Yes........................ ..............No
Max Cubic Inch...............455 (4.185 x4.125)................434 (4.155 x 4.00)
Special Ribbing................No......................... ..............Yes

The thing that amazes me about these specs neither company thought about changing the lifter bores over to the new style (tall style) so you can use the new design lifters that are cheaper then the Retro Style lifters.

Please let me know your opinions and experiences. Thanks Guys!

I looked at both iron blocks as well, and I preferred to convenience and piece of mind of the more stock block myself and am very happy with my decision.

4.125" b x 4.00" s = 427.6" type SB..

I figure that I'd need the wider pan rail spacing to help fitment down there vs a stock pan rail spread.

Is this so?

Probably not with a 4.185" b x 3.875" s = 426.4" engine

pdq67 this would be a great combo except you might only get 1 or 2 clean ups with it when it was time to rebuild. I bet this one though would rev quick.

With the 4" stroke in the Motown block all you really need is a stroker pan to clear the rods. In fact I even used my old Fel-Pro 1880 1pc gasket, and trimmed it a little to match the pan. (less than an 1/8" in 6 spots) Plus as mentioned barring major damage I can clean up and rebuild the motor @ 6 times.

Harley do you have any pictures of your engine and a build sheet?

Mine is 4:00 stroke and 4.125 bore , crank is a crower 4340 and crower 6" rods , and custom Ross pistons with low tension rings , My heads are track1s 227cc intake runners that have been ported and flowed by Keith Craft racing they flow around 324 at .600 and have great low lift numbers also . I'm running a large solid roller and a MPFI fuel injection unit . I get around 21 mpg at cruise with my 5 speed .
Mark .

Excellent...Thats exactly what Im looking for. I may try to do the same or very similar. That sounds like a very good combo.
