I have the chance to pick up a Jasper 350 (300HP) with one year warrenty left on it. Has anyone had any luck with these? The miles on the engine are very low and I can pick it up for a great price. Any thought?

Jasper makes good rebuilt engines. I have one in my garage and it ran great. Never had any problems with the engine. Except for the need for more cubic inches. Now it sits in a cradle. If you want more horse power just upgrade the cam and get some good flowing heads. I upgraded mine and it made 400 hp.

Year one has a 350 400+ hp for 2990.00,less carb water pump and dist. so if your talking a couple grand or less good deal and yes Jasper is nation wide and reputable,if I had the deal I would go for it as I am looking for another motor...Happy Motoring

I've seen lots of good ones and just one bad one.

It was a "performance" 351 Ford....the cam went flat after about 3000 miles. I don't know if proper break-in procedures were used. Just for the record the district rep wouldn't warranty it, even with those low miles because it was 3 weeks over the time warranty. Business is business.

The guy I am buying it from wants $1000 so I guess it would be worth buying. I believe that I would have that or more in a rebuild if I went that way with another block. I am not sure of the heads but the number on the pass. side is 333882. Can anyone tell me what size valves they have. I dont want to remove the heads if I dont have to. BTY the block is 3970010 (typical 350). Thanks

Buy Buy Buy at that price can't go wrong ....good luck if you were north west and didn't want I would buy ...have fun Happy Motoring

Would you mind posting a link to that Year One motor? I can't find it on their site.

Nevermind, I found it. Looking at their other engines. I think 400hp might be a misprint.

Thanks!

Bad and good news:
I got ready to load the block onto my truck and stop the press. I noticed a stight crack at the bottom of the block. What drew the attention was a small rust line. Then I noticed another about 2 in. belowe that. The block had a very small bubble between them. I told the guy that the block looks to be cracked. I could tell that the motor had very little miles by peeking in on the valves thru the exh. I believe that the block froze and cracked. The good news was that that same sun shinning down, was shinning on the dogs @$$. Talked to the owner on the phone and he told me he was sorry and that must of happened when they had it outside. I was very lucky to see that.

Wow yes ,buying used part's can be AT YOUR OWN RISK deal and uasually I stay away from, not unless you know the person well ,I have been down that road before (been burned) Draged raced for 17 yrs bought lots of used parts most good some bad ,half to eat it ....glat you saw that ....Good luck and Dave I don't think it's a misprint as I saw the engine in Car Craft year one ad spect's. 400 hp. if interested call them they claim to supply you with the dyno sheet for that motor ...Happy Motoring

What would you think about still buying it for some less than a good rotating assembly would go for and then finding a good block for it??

I bet there is a very good chance that it's guts are fine so maybe you can still take advantage of a bargain.

PDQ67 Very true ,but I would not use the barings ,rings, cam barings, and a used cam and new cam barings not a good idea ,I am not saying it will not work, but kinda a crap shoot, you probley be into it almost as much as a new comp. motor like I stated eariler Year 1 has a S/B 400+ hp for $2999.00...Just my opnion. Maybe into a tad more$$ but all fresh no used parts..Please no one take me wrong, just discussion here ,using my 30 + yrs. of tinkering with this stuff...Happy Motoring

I tried that and the guys said that he would sell that block with a bare block that he has for $800. I told him that I would only give him a couple hundred for the broke block and that I had a chance to buy a block from a buddy for a few hundred. That motor just needed put back together and its clean. He wouldnt go for it so I told him that I declinded. The guy that was selling, bought a truck that this motor came from and I think he was just trying to recoupe his money. He owns a buisness and thats what this is about. I am not going to bad mouth the guy because I believe that he didnt know about its condition untill I pointed it out. He told me that it was sitting outside for a while and thats when this must of happened. He did say he was sorry. Even so that was close and living on a budget can be a little scary!
