I have a 1968 RS SS Camaro . I know all stock big blocks fit fine under a stock SS hood . The 572cub. complete crate engine from GM sits higher because of its new Gen VI tall deck race block & new Aluminum tall deck single plane intake manifold . How much higher is my question ?? Don't want any guessing . Someones done this already & knows the answer Im sure .

The taller deck is 0.400" so it will be about 0.250" taller at the "Chinawall".

If you know trigonometry, this should be an easy one.. I forget all the formulas but this might help.

9.8" & 10.2" is the hypotenuses to compare and the angle 45 degrees..

The 0.400" higher I don't understand in inches & that may be only the block itself . The hight of the intake & block total is what Im after as it sits stock from GM . (Silver69Camaro) said about 1.25 inches about . Ive heard a few people at shops say about 3 to 4 inches too . So thats why Im hoping to find someone who can say -- this is what it is & no more than this . Anyway I would like a more sure answer if possible . Thanks you all for your input so far anyway . I'd like that 1.25 inches hight if thats all it is .

Also with it being taller I seend a camaro getting one put in it when it was new and they had to make space in the firewall for clearence. They cut an opening and used a wheel barrel bucket and fited it.. looked good when it was done.

and for not knowing what .400 " is its .100 away from 1/2" or close to 13/32 at .406 dont have a drill chart so I just guessed and thats the closest I could come up with. Unless I misread your not understanding then sorry.

Headman headers just came out with a new header part #65576-6 for the 572cub. engines to fit without cuting . The normal big block header for 1968 Camaro's don't fit . I haven't heard about the firewall needing to be cut . I would be interested in hearing more on that if anyone has seen that too. Knowing .400" is less than a 1/2 inch , the intake may not be to much higher . Beginning to sound like (Silver69Camaro) could be right on . Maybe someone yet can say I know & there right . Then maybe someone can yet give me a little more insight with this project to come .

I think it might be helpful to contact your local GM/chevrolet dealership and inquire or contact one of the several dealerships that sell across the internet. Surely they would or can find out the dimensional difference. If you find out please post what it is. I do know a 572 was placed in a 67 vette with the big block hood and it did not make it. Was close but the air cleaner hit. They had to modify the hood slightly for clearence. This was the King Ray articles in CorvetteEnthusiast. I looked at the car at corvette carlisle. Good luck and tell us how it went....

I doubt it as there's usually more than 1.25" difference between a low profile dual plane and tall single plane intake, plus you have the block height difference on top of that.

I have tried one Gm tech number & I will call them again for they were trying to find out so they would know too . They told me to call some shops that sell the 572 that probably sometime already has installed one & that one place I called told me to ask this question on this site do you believe . I will try a few more shops including speed shops & will let everyone know .

Over on pro-touring.com, dhardison recently put a 572 into his Nova replacing a 454. Perhaps a post there will help.

And don't assume SS's came with low profile intakes with BBC's. My L78 came with an aluminum hi-rise.

When we built "King Ray", we only had to take 1/4" of height out of the air cleaner foam element support for it to fit under a stock '67 big-block hood with a stock GM 3x2 intake; I drove it again last weekend in Florida, and it's an ANIMAL! :D
