I would like to know if there is a reliable guide, preferably with photos, for detailing a '69 DZ302 engine and engine compartment (bolt markings, finishes, wire and hose routing, plug wire holders, etc.)? I have 30 years worth of assorted Chevy bolts and I might as well use the right ones if I have them or can find them.
I have 3 DZ 4053 Holley carbs (3rd time charm to locate correct date). They are dated 791, 845, and 912. None have the obvious differences of the new replacement carbs and all look 38+ years old. Putting them side by side, I do notice differences between all of them. One has a different base plate from the others that I'm 99% sure is wrong since that carb has been very messed with at some time. Another has different float level lock screws (the screws have very small heads that are recessed flush into the adjuster nuts instead of the large flat screw heads that cover most of the nut like I have always seen on Holleys). That carb seems original and unmolested in every respect. The choke pulloff is different on another (probably a service replacement since it looks newer than the rest of the carb) and there are some minor choke linkage differences. How do I determine what is correct to build one good carb out of the three of them?
Also, is the forward lamp harness the same or different for a gauge and non-gauge car? My parts book lists only one number for that harness and I might have to replace mine.
Finally, I am getting fairly well disgusted with the time and effort I am spending to try to locate a correctly-dated brake booster. The one in the car is a black-painted rebuilt replacement. Even when I found an original, it was so pitted that it didn't look worth restoring and replating, which I'll bet is expensive. I see the really pretty Delco Moraine stamped repops advertised everywhere and, since I'm not building for show or resale, I can't help but be tempted by them. Is there anything to watch out for here? Each retailer claims his are superior to the other guy's, of course, but what's the truth?
Alot of questions, I know, but if you have any advice on any of them I'd sure like to hear it. Thanks for any help!
