Help would be greatly appreciated even if you can tell me how muchh you spent on your paint job and what was the extent of work they did on it: dents, replacing panels, gaps, dissassembly etc, as well as overall quality of paint job. Thanks a lot. I have a 68 with full interior, high gloss black painted on entire front and rear subframes and fenderwells. I am looking for a good paint job that will paint my car of course, with door seals painted well (no overspray and no unpainted areas), inside of ttrunk lid, and inside of hood etc. Basically everywehre paint is supposed to be, I will see the paint job and not my old paint. Some dissassembly such as removing weatherstripping brackets and doorhandels but nothing too major. I am looking for several coasts of clear and painted-on racing stripes. How much will this cost? All the hinges close great and there are no major uneven gaps that are naked-eye visible. No dents.

A complete color change with stripes and no rust repair is going to run at least 2500 for a good job. While it may seem like your car is straight once you start block sanding you will find all kinds of imperfections. If you find a shop to work with tell them that you will remove ALL or the emblems and trim and bumpers,ETC. this can save you a bunch. Why pay 45 an hour for someone to take it all apart. for 2500 this should include inner fenders, under hood, trunk, door jams, etc. Good luck. Just my .02 :0

Some shops will guarantee a job only if they strip the car and start over. Others will paint over existing color if the surface is OK.
Those were good tips in the previous post; do the dis-assembly yourself.
The material costs for repaint over existing surface will be around $500.00 - $700.00 and up. A complete strip, prime, block and paint will be more like $1,000.00 - $1,200.00 and up for materials for a base coat-clear coat job. You could use acrylic enamel with a catalyst if you don't mind Red, Black or White and still get a very nice job and save a LITTLE money. Both will have to be sanded and rubbed for quality job.

Just got mine back last Thurs.
They stripped mine completely, Under trunk, Jambs. Color change to Garnet Red.
Replaced both lower part on quarters behind rear wheel& Outer wheel wells. Took about 3 months to complete.
He charged me $2900.00 plus $500.00 for the quarter repair metal & a new cowl hood.
The shop that did mine does a lot of camaros and mine turned out great. No waves or runs.

I have to take it back for the final buff next week.

He used base coat with Clear, watersanded with 600 then cleared again.

Then I put all new chrome (1700.00).

Now all I need is tires. getting those today.

The best advice I can give you is to do your homework. Try to find a friend of a friend, good paint and body guys are few and far between, at least in my neck of the woods. Go to local car shows and ask people who painted their cars, most people will be happy to discuss it with you. I've been looking for over a year to find someone to paint my car, seems like once they find out you have a 1st generation Camaro, the price automatically doubles. I'm not looking for show quality either, but most quotes have been in the 5K range, a little bit more than what I want to spend on my car, which is going to be a weekend warrior, not a trailer queen. Anyhoo, my car is finally going into the paintshop tomorrow, I met a guy quite by accident, he had some 69 Camaro doors for sale, and when I went to get them, I noticed several cars in his garage, in the process of being painted. Turns out he used to have his own shop, but it went belly up for whatever reasons, and now he works out of his garage, restoring a few cars at a time, usually people he knows, or friend of friends. He's not trying to make a killing on it, he doesn't advertise, and we just struck up a conversation about old Camaros. Next thing you know, I'm next in line to get my car painted, and he's even gonna let me help!!! Total cost should be less than 2500, but that's also because I've already stripped the car to bare metal, and I'm going to help take off all the trim, remove the doors and fenders, you know, all that time consuming stuff that anyone can do. Hopefully, it'll be done in about 3 months, but I'm in no hurry, as long as it comes out nice. I'll make sure and post lots of pics when it's done! Good luck! KZ
