I have been stumbling around this old 327 short block in my garage for about 15 years and I am getting sick of it. It's already 30 over the crank is turned .020 so its on its last leg. I just want to make sure the block isn't out of something special. The crank is forged. It has the breather in the rear of the block so I suppose that means it's small journal.
The numbers stamped on the front pad are FIOI8S
Cast onto the RT rear above the bellhousing is J61
The rear in the bell housing area is 935 and 870
and the other casting number is 3732870
Iver never had the timing chain cover off.

Thanks for your time

I'm just shooting from the hip but believe that engine prefix is from an early 60's 283 Impala? I owned a 62 Impala ragtop years ago and that cast # and assembly code ring a bell.

You sure it's not 3782870?
That would make it a 327cu in from 1962-67 out of a truck or pass. car.
I also think one of my engines start with an F on the front pad. That engine is out of a 1967 Camaro(90% positive)
