I have a 327/300 hp installed in my '67 RS. The engine is getting hot and is probably caused by the fan being out of the shroud..... meaning that the distance from the rear of the shroud to the front of the fan blades is about one inch....... in other words, the fan is not in the shroud. Can someone provide me with the necessary dimensions of a spacer....... currently a 2 inch one is installed..... fan clutch..... currently none installed...... and a 6 blade fan is bolted to the spacer. End result is .... fan not in hole of shroud. chetter sends

I not sure but if I remember correctly a fan will move more air if the front of fan is not in the shroud. Is it getting hot at slow speeds in traffic or at highway speeds? How is the radiator? How many rows of cooling fins. Sometimes people would go to lesser rows when changing them out.

Thanks for the response....... now for the big question: The engine cannot be easily moved forward, so do I need to get a longer than 2 inch spacer, add a fan clutch onto the spacer, or is there a shroud that is longer which will allow the fan to be into the shroud. I have never seen, which doesn't mean much, a '67 327 fan/shroud configuration to compare to.

I live in the country in MS and there aren't any other 67 Camaros to compare mine to.

What are the merits, if there are any, of removing the engine driven fan and install an electric fan?
Please advise

I would look for a 2 .750 to 3.00 spacer but IMO, 7 blade factory type fan with a GM fan clutch would be better. Are you running a fixed fan or flex type?

Check CRG on underhood/cooling. They will tell what it came with and what it should be. Not sure if you are running stock stuff or not. My chevy service manual shows all V8's with the back of the fan blade even with the front of the shroud. If you aren't, then....?

OK sports fans............. I am back with you and thanks for the participation! To answer a few questions..... I am running a 6 blade fan, 2 inch spacer, with through bolts attaching the fan through the spacer to the pulley.

My Chevrolet manual number ST 130-67, depicts on page 13-6, for V-8 engines the fan approximately half-in/half-out with .80 inches clearance between the fan blade and shroud in the 12 o'clock position.

As I stated above, there is a 1 inch gap between my fan and the shroud, fore and aft. Or in other words my fan ain't in the shroud hole at all.

You need a fan clutch AND a spacer. I would never recommend a 2.75-3" Spacer, thats not safe. Clutch is what you really want, and you'll need a fixed blade on that clutch.
Flexalite 5555 Thermal Fan Clutch
FlexaLite 5718 18" Fan Blade
FlexaLite 14548 1" Fan Spacer

That will solve your problem and fit your fan blade half in half out of the shroud. If your engine isn't dead center with the shroud, go with a 5717 17" Fan Blade

Do you have the long water pump or short? That makes a 1" difference. 67/68's used the long pump, 69 had the short pump with a longer shroud to match.

My 67 Camaro came with a 2" spacer non-clutch fan.
I don't think I've ever seen a clutch fan used with a spacer, the engineers usually figure out how to make the shroud fit the fan, not the other way around.

Here is my setup, long water pump, SB 383, 69 with 2 row alum radiator and stock SBC shroud. You can see the 1" spacer in the photo.
