i have a 1968 camaro w/ the 250 6 cylinder. when the engine is cold or when i try to accelerate (war or cold) the butterfly closes and the engine stalls.
it closes so hard that i have to tap it with the screwdriver handle to open it. what is going on?

Should be an old 2barrel rochester.....hm...Thise are normally good carbs. Most ppl dont like them cause they cant tune them. Its manual choke? is the linkage hung up somehow? wow...ill have to think about this one...

Holy Moly Tim!! I havent seen a bay city mono ever on a car.....saw a bunch on old tractors.....Sounds like the spring or the metal valve inside the exhaust is hung up....after warmup.

I cant find any pics of this thing, can you get some pics????

I found some pics of older 2 bbl marine roch carbs, and they had heat transfer tube style chokes.

I think the lever has come out of the spring inside the control, or something is stuck.
Or he has something different, a different animal than I'm thinking maybe.

I need to see it to do him any good.

Were they down on the exhaust manifold? Heat riser has an external spring sometimes, but I don't remember seeing choke hooked into a spring on the exhaust manifold.

Trying....to....remember......the spring was inside a tube along the manifold....as it got hot it released tension and released the choke....thats a minneapolis moline(?) tho....it wasnt a rochester. seem like the farmall had a rochester(?)

The tube he's talking about is the bowl vent or external one goes to intake or exhaust to get heat
It has heat transfer choke, and I bet it's stuck inside or misadjusted or fell out of the spring loop.

Pop the cap and look see

wouldnt be the last one...has the elec choke.....
