And fwiw, the old 350hp/327, L-79 engine in the '66 Duece was only a 585 cfm Holley!!

Plus the 302 Z-28 engine ran either an early 3310-1 780 cfm type or a later 3310-2,-,- 750 type vacuum secondary carb fine!!

JohnZ, how far off am I b/c it's been a while on this???

BadBird, That doesn't mean YOU should run another brand of 750 Carb. The Q-jet has small primary's that give it excellent driveability. The Q-jet is what they call a spreadbore design. The secondaries are larger than a Holley 750 CFM carb. and the primaries are smaller than a 600CFM Holley carb. Most Holley's and edelbrock's etc. are a Square bore which means your primarys and secondarys are the same size.

An old 1850 Holley 600cfm vacuum secondary 4-barrel on their 300-36 true high-rise intake will turn a 327 right on, imho!!

Add headers and a 268 to 272 cam for about 9.75 to 1 CR using flat-tops and 64 cc chambered medium valve heads and either the .015" or .020" thick shim headgaskets and hold on!!

That sounds excellent man!.....So if one was running a Holley square bore carb then 600 cfm would be the maximum for streetability and performance??

You can go up to a 750 vacuum secondary holley for good streetability and will diliver more power than a 600, the 600 is slightly restrictive. If you feel you are running too rich or too lean you can swap out jets for a larger or smaller size as needed. I think you would be a little happier with a 9.5 CR to run 87 octane.

A 600 Holley is more than adequate for a street 327; it will have a strong metering signal, good driveability and crisp throttle response. No need to go any larger unless you're going to spend a lot of time over 7000 rpm. :)

'67Z's ran a 3910/3911, and '68-'69's ran the 4053; both are vacuum-secondary 4150's, 780-800CFM, WAY more carb than they needed for street operation, but they were released that way to keep the SCCA happy for Trans-Am.

:beers:

Get a properly and professionally built Quadrajet and it will run circles around a Holley 600 CFM. A 750 Holley can be tuned by a pro, and it will work on a 327 but, driveability, road manners, and gas mileage will be sacrificed.
