I want to eliminate the vent window by putting 68 doors on. The hinge bolt pattern is three on a 67 and four on the 68. Has anyone done this? Is it possible to rebuild the hinge using the separate halves and mount up?

Now that the jokers are finished...

This has been done before, but... I have heard that the hinges are different, including the locations of the bolts that attach them to the car. I'd suggest before purchasing the doors, you get ahold of a set of 68 hinges and see what it will take to bolt them to the cowl, or alternatively, how the door side compares to the 67 hinge and what it will take to bolt the 67 hinge to the 68 door.

Is there some kind of inside joke about wing windows, asking sincerely?

I'm not trying to stir the pot, I just wanna know WTF?
In the last couple days I've seen 2 or 3 posts where people seem touchy about wing windows.

By context of this thread am I correct to infer that is it a 67 vs later years thing?

And that 67's have em and later years don't?

The 67 guys are VERY touchy about thier wing windows, and yes, that is the only year firstgen to have this relic from the 50's installed.

Relic, those are part of the 2-80 air conditioning.

how about taking the guts out of a 68 door and putting them in the 67 door?
that was my plan to get rid of the wing windows on my 71 Nova- get all the parts from a 73 or 74 door, and just swap it in.
the only thing wing windows are good for is making it uncomfortable to rest your arm on the top of the door when cruising down the road. and they also make for a convenient place for thieves to get into your locked car.

A new guy with only a couple of posts asking about eliminating wing windows?

This thread was obviously started by a 68 or 69 owner with wing window envy.
I would be willing to bet this is someone we know who changed their name to protect their true identity.

ok guys this is lame, why dont you stop posting this crap about how much it hurts your feelings or is sacreligious to think about removing the wing windows
the guy has a real question, and just like every other question we should try and help him answer it
quit the crap, its his car let him do it

I personally thought a lot about this, i think you best bet would be to try and assemble the hinges like you talked about with one half 67 and one half 68
but i think the lower hinges are too different for that to work , but it would be the easiest

I think the next best would be to remove the slip plates that the hinges bolt to on both doors, and put the 67 3- hole slip plates into the 68 doors, you would have to weld up a few if not all the original bolt holes in the 68 doors and cut new ones to match the 67 hinges and slip plates
If that doesnt make sense let me know i will try and explain again

Wow I never dreamed a simple question would stir so many emotions? Ok if I was putting the car back to original I could see your point, but do you see any of Chip Foose cars original? And look at him; I’m sure he laughed it off also when he was first laughed at? Anyways for the Identity comment, nope I know who I am and the path I’m on. Hell I took a straight Electra Glide Harley and customized it and sold it for $10,000 more then I paid and had into it! Yeah I laughed also!

Thanks for those who comment with good directions and suggestions for the others open up your wings and ride like you stole it, because it’s yours and it’s the way you want it, now let me build mine the way I want it. I joined this site in hopes that I could get some good feed back and we could all learn from each other. I guess if I wanted the jokes I could have purchased a year’s subscription to Mad Mag!

Oh to the guy who thinks I changed my identity for a joke to stir up comments? Sorry believe me I highly doubt that you know me!

thanks for the support, the jokes don't bother me, I'm building the car as a custom or touring model, something I can drive everyday and ride comfortable in and if I chose to sell it ok? It will be for a profit... I looked at a 68 impala tonight I'm thinking about picking that up I'm sure the Camaro people would hate that also?

Not picking on you.
Was just commenting on the fact that the 68 Camaro is not sure who it is.
That is just a running joke around here. no Diss intended.

So you think you are the next Chip Foose?
Chip wouldn't need to figure out how to make a hinge work, he would just fabricate one.
It is a long expensive lesson to learn about classic car modifications.
Bikes and cars are different.

And no one knows you... because even though you joined the site in Oct 2006,
you never filled in your profile???
So let me ask then... Who are you?
