Check this out ...
I went to look at a camaro today and drove over an hour to see the car , only to find out that the seller had everyone show up at the same time .
The car was posted at 2,800 not running needing complete restoration.
I was the second one to show up and two other guys came in after me .
Just before the owner showed up i said it was no longer what is he willing to take for the car but how much where going to bid .
Just like an real live ebay .
well after that the first guy left , then it was just me and the other two .
The owner ask me what i wanted to do since i was next in line , i said i'll pay your full asking price . Then he ask the other guy well what do you want to do ? He jumped up with a real good poker face and said i'll pay 3,500
At this piont i was in the game , i bid to 4,000 with a straight face and stated there's more in the truck where that came from .
the second guy said well you got your camaro , i'm out if your going to pay 4,000.
I didn't get he deal i was after , but it is a real hugger orange 4 spd car . i'll post photos later .

Wow .. I've never heard of something like that .. some people man ... The part where you said , theres more in the Truck was the Ticker !! So you picked up a Good Camaro for 4K . Would of been sweet if you could of picked it up for 2,500.

Real live Evil bay in the making . lol

It almost sounds like the owner planned it out. I guess it worked out for both of you. Congrats. I love Hugger Orange by the way.

I've heard of that sales method before.

If you are the seller it can work very well for you.

Paul :beers:

if a car is advertised at a set price and you were first in line and offered to pay that price aren't they olbigated to sell it at said price? any lawyers out there?? glad you got the car you wanted but i'm just curiose of the legals.

Classifieds are considered invitations to negotiate, not a legal offer to be accepted, so the seller has no obligation to sell at that price.

Whether he had the "right" to do it or not, it was a low class move if his original intent was to get the people there with a low price and then pit them against one another.

An advertised price is not an offer to negotiate up--it is the price at which the seller will sell the car. He may take less (aka "OBO) but personal honor should have dictated that he sell it for the advertised price to the first person with that amount of money.

Just my 2 cents.

The next time I call on a classified ad, I may ask the seller if he plans on having an auction!

Joe, you are right. A Hugger Orange 4-spd is worth every bit of 4K, and I imagine you would have driven the same hour if he listed it at 4K in the ad.

Congrats on your new project.

Dan

Joe, That is actually a good deal! White hounds tooth int, power drums. The engine looks like it has a alum Z/28 intake and valve covers. I also think is has the tilted coil for the cowl air cleaner. Have you checked the numbers on the engine/trans/rear? Are the standard door panels in good shape or hacked up because they put them on deluxe doors? dash pad repairable? Woodgrain on the pass side dash?

Nice horns in the grille too :D If you were the only one to show up then you would probably have gotten it for the $2500. But just like many retail items, prices change. Look at gas... $3.29 a gallon a week ago, now $2.89 today and it might change while Im filling up. Id never play that price game on anyone, guess its the scrupples that some have or dont.

I'll be checking the numbers out today I just got it home late last night before i went to work . I don't expect it to be numbers matchng .
The auction thing was kind of fun , i don't really think the seller ment it for it to happen like that , in fact i was the one who brought it up in the begining with my comment I made . I think if i was a not the winning bidder i might have been more upset , but i also wasn't going much higher .
