I read the sticky thread but have a question that I didnt see answered in it..

My car currently has manual steering..

What power steering hoses and power steering pump do I use??

Do I use 69 power steering hoses and pump or is there somthing better??

Thanks

I am currently going through this same upgrade. The pump I ordered does not have the male fitting on the pressure side of the pump. Any suggestions on where to find the fitting or a supplier that has the fitting with the pump? Thanks.

Many Chevrolets had male discharge fittings on the pump up until 1968 or 1969. So a 1969 pressure hose for a small block Camaro might have a male nut that would work with your new pump with the female discharge. I just don't remember exactly what year the discharge fitting changed.

Otherwise, 1970-74 Novas had basically the same chassis and small block engines as the Gen I Camaros. They definately had the female discharge fitting. So you should be able to ask for a Nova pressure hose. It should have a 5/8 male nut that will fit your new pump with a female discharge fitting. That hose should fit your Camaro.

I purchased a stock replacement P/S pump and that came with the adaptor ( male fitting ) and hoses from Aotozone for my 67 350. Part number 6113. Hope this info helps. The pressure hose comes with the adaptor not the pump.

Thanks for the information. I talked with Lee Manufacturing and they are sending me the fitting with the correct pressure relief valve and spring. For those of us converting from Manual to Power it makes sense to add these parts to our order from Lee if you get their conversion package.

I am not sure what you are talking about.. I just placed an order with Lee this morning and dont think I got this part..

I am converting from manual steering and got the conversion from Lee. I also got the correct gear box, and am ordring a 69 power steering pump, rack and Hoses..

Do I need somthing else to make it work??

Thanks

If your pump has the "male" fitting and valve as did camjoe63 above then your OK. The pump I purchased did not have the "male" fitting and you are expected to use the fitting and valve from your old pump. In our case there is no "old" pump. Another solution that I have seen here is to use a pressure hose from a 74 Nova. Apparently the pump fitting on the Nova hose is a "male" fitting and will fit the "female" fitting in the pump. I elected to order the fitting and valve just today. It is not part of the conversion kit from Lee. Most people are converting from a power steering set up and this is not an issue.
