I found 3 related posts on this subject but I am still not clear as too the original finish on the 69 parking lights. Gold cad or silver? My originals do not even have the hint of gold yet 1 post stated gold.
Thanks as always,
Don

I remember dull silver plating on mine. I have bead blasted a few and not seen any gold. Insides are white and bulb is orange :D

John, he is talking about the backs of the front parking lights on 69s. :)

And Don, you should have asked me for a 890 horn relay.

Here we go again!
My originals are gold. They even have the original working bulbs in them. Same color as my horn relay too.

Oh hell, here's a look;

That's them to the right of the relay.:yes:

I think Fred got the "Gold Edition" Camaro, sold only to North West Chevy dealers. :)
I believe it. Especially from the comments here! You know, those housings and the surrounding area have never been washed.:noway:
Oh, I special ordered mine. Didn't get it off the lot.

Looked through old parts today. The last two 69s Ive restored were clearly gold, painted white on the front side. 07A and 09A (of 69).
Well, I may be forced to send mine to Steve Gregori to have mine redone!! I am sure I decided on silver cad based on discussions 4-5 years ago. Anyone know if you can mask off the socket to prevent it from becoming gold?

Does anyone have any early car that they know the housings are original? any silver cad?

Well, I finally de-rusted a couple and no trace of gold on the outside, but when I glass beaded the inner white paint off, there is the gold! I've done 2 so far and gold is there. Oh well. Don, you need to do them in gold cad! Sorry for the mis-direction, chalk it up to learning something new every day. :)

Read the thread over at CRG that I posted. Steve did mine. The plating will not stick to the rubber tubing.

Cleaned 3 more, all silver cad. Here some pics. The one light shows the silver very clearly versus where the plating is gone on the lower section of the back. The other inside pics are not as dramatic, but there is no gold on those and spots of shinier silver where the plating survived. The red one is from my Oct 68 car, I have no idea where the others came from.

I think both were used. I have an LOS 69 with silver cad, not gold and I know they are original. My car is 11B.
