Hey everyone, I just watched a show on that z max fuel and oil additive. What does anyone know about this stuff? Just another gimmick or is it for real? I'm not a big fan of adding additives but they sure make it look like it cant hurt. Just your opinion on it.:thumbsup:
 
My Dad loves using this stuff. He puts in in all his cars, boat, RV, even his lawnmower. I put some in a 95 Honda I had a while back. It was stolen one nite, but recovered the next day but with 200 more miles on it. Apparently the thermostat either broke or was damaged in all commotion, so while I was driving it home from the tow yard it got HOT! The temp gauge was pegged for about half the ride home, my mechanic said the head should have warped for sure. But everything was fine, no engine damage. Not sure if it was the Zmax that protected the engine or not, but it's cheap insurance like $35 I think.
 
Rob, I just saw a commercial last night that had Carrol Shelby in it.

They showed this stuff on an episode of Truck U and the stuff seems to really work. They placed a small eye droppers worth of it into a small hole drilled into a block of metal and it completely soaked into the block. Not just in the hole, but all the way through it. All the way to the bottom, the sides, the middle, everywhere. It's not snake oil. The molecules are so small, it actually soaks into the metal. All the way through it. True it has to be replenished, but it's still worth it, IMO.
 
Did anyone state why you would want a chemical in your engine with particles so small it would soak into the metal? I thought that additives were supposed to form a film of lubricant over the metal that was stronger than regular oil, and offer increased protection against wear or reduce friction for increased power. What would be the purpose of soaking into the metal unless it is to clean away deposits? :confused:

Dont play chemist with your oil. Manufacturers build oils to meet specs needed for our cars. Adding 'junk' to the oil will change the chemistry and also void the oil makers warranty.
 
I don't think I would drive with the temp gauge pegged, even if I had a "sure thing" date waiting for me at the destination!!
You're right. The temps didn't climb until I got off the freeway and came to a dead stop. From there it wasn't too far from home so I turned the heater on and crossed my fingers. In any other car I would've pulled over and called a tow truck. But for the Honda I took the chance.
 
All OEM manufactuers owners manuals clearly state not to add any additives to engine oil for a reason.............:clonk:..........
 
I guess if you put this stuff in your engine and it soaks through the metal, it will just eventually end up on your garge floor under your car!

At least it will go through your concrete floor too! :) Will not have to clean it up!
 
Have you ever heard the term 'seasoned block' or 'seasoned cast iron' cookware? Cast iron will soak in a certain amount of oil during the heating and cooling process. Any engine oil will 'season' a cast block although we use vegetable oil for our cookware.
 
OK....here we go again,just viewed another show on SPEED..Two Guys Garage with a different segment than the one on Truck-U promoting Z-max.It was very convincing as was the previous show.Also the commercials are continuing with Carrol Shelby endorsing the product.I had also heard that there might be some pending litigation regarding false claims against the company....what gives?...:confused:....
 
I forgot to mention what makes this even more interesting is that they had a sweet 69' Camaro on the dyno in the backround during most of the shooting,indirectly promoting its use in our classics,although they never actually ran the car on tape,they made sure it was noticable.....
 
Z-Max is not an oil additive. It uses the engine oil to carry the product to vital engine components. It doesn't do anything to the oil itself. It treats only the metal. It doesn't change the make up of the oil. You don't have to remove any oil to use Z-max. You simply pour it in. I added it to my engine and I have seen a drop in running temp and also a smoother idle. It takes the Z-max at least 5 or 6 hot/cold cycles to soak into the metal and since it is a consumable it has to be replenished. I have no complaints about it and it isn't "Snake Oil". It does "ABSOLUTELY NOTHING" to the oil. It only affect the metal.
 
Reminds me of the Gut-Be-Gone. Use it for 2 minutes a day and in 2 weeks you have washboard abs. At least, that is what the infomercials say.

The only reason you are adding it to your oil is so the oil can transport the Z-Max to various places in the engine. They also offer a fuel treatment and a tranny treatment. The fuel treatment is supposed to clean off the injector tips and the tranny is supposed to lower tranny temps. I don't know about those two, but I have used the engine treatment and I have noticed lower engine temps and a smoother idle. I have actually experienced some benefits from it. Now, that's not saying that everyone will, but I have.
