Yesterday, while I was purchasing other parts for my '67, I happened to remember that I needed some window guides. I asked the guy if he had some used ones and he did. He assured me that they were from a '67 but I didn't think that they looked like the one that I did have (but my grey-matter hard-drive is full so my memory can be very inaccurate). When I got home and checked, low and behold they did not look like the other guide that I had. In the picture I posted, the one on the left is what I purchased (a qty of 3) and the one on the right is what I now have (but only one). I have a few questions...1) which one is correct for a '67? I looked through the posts and the left ones look like they may be for a '69. 2) If the ones on the right are the correct ones for a '67 then are they all four the same (a forward and rear for each door)? If so then I can fab the other 3 I need from measurements from this one. 3) And finally, where the heck do these things get installed? I looked through the Fisher manual and I can't seem to find them. Any help is appreciated.

After posting the above question and not getting any replies, I decided to ask around and see if I could figure this thing out. In typical fashion, I asked three guys and got three different answers. One guy says that you don't need any guides at all, one guy says that you only need one guide, the rear one, since the vent window frame guides the forward portion of the window (that seems logical to me), and one guy says that there are two per door, a front and rear. I think I have narrowed it down to needing the guide shown on the left in the above picture. Looking at the door, it seems to fit in the area shown in the attached picture. This seems to support the need for one guide only, a rear guide. Does this jog anyone's memory?

Ok i'll give it a shot since no one els is.Going by memory only here the one on the left goes outboard of the window on the inner structure of the door.Hard to see but they are in there. The one on the right is the guide. There are two that are the same(i think) that mount on the upper part of the door, flat with the fuzzy against the glass. The lower piece in the last pic is a stop that adjusts to control how far your window can roll up.

The one on the right goes on the inside of the door at the top look for a single bolt hole (Most likely on the inside look up on a 67) its need to hole the glass from flopping around, The one on the left look through at the window seal (directly under it)look for 2 small screw holes on the exterior side of the door skin looking from the inside to the outside,if you replaced the skins will most likely not fit, Mine did not after reskinning the doors but its a 68.

shoddy F-body,
I don't really see anywhere on the outboard door structure where the one on the left would go. I think my doors are original so they should be there. The pic in my second post seems to match the hole pattern for this bracket but is on the "inboard" inner structure.
sharpie,
I think that I see the bolt hole where the one on the right goes. It is hard to tell since the door is gutted but it seems to fit.
I'm probably going to have to wait until I assemble the door, or see one that is already assembled, or find a good picture. I have the Fishers manual and the factory assembly manual (but it does not show door components since they were pre-assembled) but I can't seem to find a pic of what I'm looking for. I appreciate the help and I'll keep looking around and hopefully something will click or someone will be at the same point and can provide a good picture.

I can get a picture if you need but mine is a 68 The outside location would be the same, but inside you'll at least get an idea of how it mounts.

The one on the left looks like the style that gets riveted to the (outer) fuzzy- maybe thats why you don't see any holes. The repops have a fuzzy material while this piece looks like an orig GM piece that is/was permanantly riveted.

The one on the right goes where described on the inside of the door.

sharpie,
A pic would be helpful. Thanks.
67 RSS,
I checked my outer fuzzy (a repro unit) and I don't see any holes where it can be riveted. It may be a repro thing but so far the repro stuff seems to fit pretty good (as far as the trim.... the sheetmetal is another issue).

Bill..I read your post and climbed up to get my old doors down from storage to snap a pic for you. I'm glad I read this post cause I missed the guide and its still in my old doors. Now I will take them out and transfer to my repops. Its the only one I could find....Heres a couple pics. I hope they help.....and oh yeah, Happy New Year !

I think the one on the left screws on the outer door on 69's and possibly 68's (you can see the holes are beveled for the countersunk screws) but on 67's it's similar but it's factory rivited to to the fuzzy. Here's NOS fuzzies for 67's

O.K. I've figured out the inboard guide. Thanks for the pic Trax. BTW, I did use the guide on the right (in the first pic above) for the inboard guide. Now the outboard guide (the one shown on the left in the pic above) is another issue. It seems like the repro fuzzies do not have any mounting holes in them for this guide. I might have to mount them to the fuzzies myself (or mount them to the inner door flange). Am I correct in assuming that these should go toward the back of the window? If so then I can probably get them close enough by the picture that jerry67 posted. Thanks everyone for the input...and Happy New Year to all.

I took my original 67 fuzzies out and they didnt have that guide attached. Maybe its a deluxe interior thingie?

I guess as long as the glass doesnt slap around, make noise or have anything to scratch it...
If you have original doors you wont have a problem with the vent windows and track. If your using Goodmark doors....man what a pain to get the vent windows in. Some fabricating to get them to sit in there Beware...

My aftermarket one's do not have them either but I seem to remember choosing the trim that was not the exact duplicate. If I remember correctly the cross-sectional shape of the chrome was slightly different (per the catalog description) which did not matter to me. I either bought them at Classic Industries or Rick's so whatever they had to offer about 2 years ago is what I got. Dang... two years ago already. Like the frog said..."Time's fun when you're having flies".
