Anyone out there have info on the factory original finish on the 2 front and 3 rear bumper brackets?

Most of the books (McNiesh/ARG) say semiflat black but others (hooper) say black oxide. Seems to me black oxide would be the wrong choice for GM and now because this is an item that needs protection.

Shows that even after 35 years and umpteen books, the experts still don't know the true story.

Thanks Arno

Thanks.
Sorry for the delay. I went out to my donor car and stripped the whole front clip to get a sample of these brackets, these are the ones with the rubber mini-donut mounts on them. The bottom layer looks like paint to me as you can peel in off with a razor blade.

Thanks

Arno

The oily raw parts originally went through a hot wash/degrease process, then through a zinc/iron phosphate treatment, then were dip-primed and baked; no primer. The phosphater was the key to long-term durability. The raw body shell and front sheet metal also got phosphated, before primer.
