Hi guys,
trying to decide whether or not to go A/C on my non-air 69 coupe. Hate to spend the cash and add more stuff to under hood area, but I live in SW Florida, enough said.
Is the Vintage Air setup the way to go? Are there any better setups for my car? A friend told me about an A/C company out of North Carolina that is supposed to be the best, but I don't know who he's talking about.
Everyone convince me one way or another if I should install A/C or not and which unit I sshould use.
Thanks for the help guys
RJ

I would install a/c, I guess I would like the comforts of driving in any condition. The two main direct fit units are the Vintage Air Gen IV and the Classic Auto air. There are a lot of posts regarding pros and cons in this section. I have not decided yet which one to go with.

tgifford5,
Thanks for the input. I kinda lean to the Vintage Air setup, of course my wife really would prefer that I don't spend the money, but she'll get over it, haha.
If I did the A/C, I'd probably do the Power Steering too, another area I'm back and forth with.

The after market units such as vintage air do not really add that much under the hood like factory A/C does. On my 68 with a vintage air unit the only thing under the hood is the compressor and the 2 hoses for it. The condebsor and dryer go up front of the radiator. Pretty clean install. The rest of the unit is inside under the dash.

Thanks Robert,
Did you install it yourself? Was the kit complete except for pulleys? What would you day was the total cost of the kit and charging the system?I told my wife about $1300, was that too low?

Thanks much

Yes, RJ I installed myself. The kit was complete less pulleys and belt. I think it was about $75.00 to have it charged. $1300.00 all said and done is probaly a good budget number give or take a $100.00. Good luck!!

For what it's worth, after reading many post on here, I think I will be going with the Gen IV Sure fit for my 68 non ac car tomorrow. I found a local dealer from vintage's website that I spoke with in person today. He was less than classic industries and said he would eat the shipping. Also seemed to be helpful on pulley and misc questions. Good rating from the BBB. I am getting nervous on the install. I have my inside already outf (heater core and box cover), except for the steering column drop. I know I attemped getting the engine side heater cover out once and was not able to do that. I will just take this one step at a time. I know I can count on the members here!! They have always been supportive and helpful on other projects and my dumb questions. Wish me luck.

I appreciate your advice. I haven't decided on it yet. If money wasn't an issue at all, I'd do what you are doing for sure.
I don't want to pull the fender, and I have heard that it can be done without removing the fender, especially if you don't care if you butcher up the heater cover getting it off.
Good luck and keep me posted.

Classic is the way to go for ease of servicing after installation. Their unit also appears to work best with the least amount of changes and modifications for a non-air car. It is my understanding that with the high humidity we have here in the south it is the best unit to use.
I'm sure both products are fine, but after all my research I decided Classic was the best for me.

Hi,

I am doing a frame off restoration to my 69 Camaro, and the car does not have factory air. I am thinking to install air-condition, but I am wondering if the aftermarket system would be cooler than installing factory air with its firewall. the aftermarket system that i am thinking of come with A6 compressor. So which one do u recommend guys. I am gonna drive it in the south (110-120) degrees.

Thanks

I have Vintage in 2 69s and have installed Vintage in a few friends 1st Gens.

I have Classic in my 67.

I like Vintage better
