I dont know the answer thats why Im asking you guys. In my small fly speck on the on the map down here ... there is a group of older men... 40+ in age who hang out at the local Dairy Queen on Saturdays. I've gone there like 2 times, with my 67 RS.... I like the atmosphere and the vintage look .. I cant imagine how it was back in the day... Im only 33 but I get carded all the time .. I guess I still have a kid face. And I guess thats why none of those car guys come and talk to me when I pull up to the Dairy Queen and get off. I had like one kid come up to me, he was like 16 and I was amazed he knew Alot about camaros..

But anyways.. after like 1 hr of sitting there sipping on my coke .. I decided to leave and there were 2 other 1st gen standard camaros near the back .. so when I was leaving, and it was getting dark already ..... I had my parking lights on .. and then when I got near them I pulled my head light switch to open the Hide-a-ways ....... God I love Hide a way lights!!!!:D

Rob you can't wait for guys to come up to you at a Burger place cruise-in, go up to one of them when you see them by their car. Throw out a complement and ask a couple questions then introduce yourself. Do it again a few times with some of the others and then the next time out when you see some of the guys you've already introduced yourself to sitting around a table at the DQ, order your coke and then say hi and ask if they mind if you join them...

Is this the dairy queen in burnet?
I used to go there all the time (blue 68', white bumblebee)
I try and avoid car clubs of that type now as all they do is talk about other members of the club, whats so dramatic about parked cars.
They do give away money to good causes though, if we are talking about the same people...

Hey guys. Most of the time you get back what you give. I have yet to meet but a very small percentage of car people that don't like to talk cars. What is dramatic about parked cars is you get to look at them close and get to know the owners. Rob, act like the kid you are and let them teach you a few things. The trick to talking to people is to ask about them and their cars. Let them ask you about your's. Don't tell them. ;)

I had a similar experience a few years ago at the local Dairy Ripple. One of the regulars that attends saw me with my car at the Dairy Queen in Lake Geneva and invited me to stop by this cruise-in the following week. Anyway when I get there most of the guys there are 60 plus and all they did was sit and talk about golf. A few of the younger guys talked to me about my car and several people stopping by to look at the cars, but most of the cars there where vintage pre-war cars and trucks not hot rods or muscle cars. After the second time there, and the same thing happened I've never been back.

Do a survey and you'll find out the owner will know more about the car/engine/oil analysis than his wife/girlfriend shoe size, dress size, and her favorite color.

If you pulled into a Dairy Queen with street rods, rat rods and lets say pre 55 cars, you will not get that great of a response from them, as later cars are not their passion. However, I am what you would consider an older person, and I have friends older that me. We own muscle cars, and if you pull into a Dairy Queen in Mississippi, you don't have to worry about coming to us. We will probably be at your car before you could ever get to us.

Sorry if I offended anyone. The only reason I mentioned there age was it was more like they where sitting at the "wet spot" on the back nine then at a cruise in. Most shows and cruises I go to at least half the conversation revolves around cars and family.

There used to be a place called Happy Days in Campbell, CA. Small 50's burger joint that would have car shows like 3 times a week! They had a fire and closed down a couple years back. :( But there was always a good mix of folks out there, young and old. Most car people are pretty friendly, like most said ask about their car and then you'll be "IN".

Ok .. what is exactly a RAT rod .. I've heard a rat rod is a car that is running / driveable but yet is Primered and such ?? is that true ..... because if thats the case then YES my 67 is a Rat rod .... the whole front clip is Primeredand the rear is blue with some here and there primered spots.. I dont care how it looks .....My friends all tell me to paint it .........BUT I tell them I am just so happy to be driving it, and I make sure that mechanically it is safe and that I will worry about the paint job later.!!

p.s. EVERYTHING works on my 67 Camaro .. my hide a ways.. my horn , my wipers .. Even my Lighter !! My lighter doesn't even work my 2000 Z71 truck!!

I guess your right Dennis ...... Im not use to the car shows or being in one .. Next time I go, I will go and talk to them and others... I didn't know the 101 of saturday night drive ins.
Crack some old fart jokes...that will break the ice !!! :clonk: :beers:

Hey guys .. Im so sorry if I offended anyone with the 40 age thing..... I have a good friend of mine who is 52 and he acts like me !! we are very good friends.

there is a Country club across the street from where I live and the entrance says in BOLD BLACK letters "Life begins at 40" .... I dont know about that . most of the folks I see there are driving golf carts and look to be in there 80's.

once again .. Im sorry if I offended anyone on the age thing.... Im in my last semester of college .. I was young and dumb when I graduated .. and it took me years to figure out, with the exception of some people , that you really can not find a good paying job without a degree. With that said .. how do you think I feel when Im in class be partnered up with someone who just graduated in 2007? I feel so dam old. but when when they find out my age, there eyes just pop out ..

A typical rat rod...

The theme is drivable, assembled from parts from various makes and models in a custom way and not finished but kinda like it would have been back in the 40's where a guy would not be able to afford paint but kept his car running.

You could have a Camaro rat rod if you never planned on finishing your car and used parts off other cars and addapted them to fit.

In some show circles there are cars painted to look like they have not been painted and are really clean well built cars made to look like a jalopy.

More on topic, there is a local place called the "Dog" that gets some of the guys from the defunct Happy Daze drive in. It's more of an older group who all go way back with each other. They don't always talk cars just like folks here use the Bench Racing and Off Topic forums to talk about other stuff. It's not that they are not into it, there is just more to life to talk about. As I said earlier, a complement and a few questions and you'll end up hearing all kinds of stories...

Hey...I was only kiddin' :) I wish I was still 40.... The only thing that probably offends us Chevy guys is when someone who knows zip thinks our car is a Ford !

Enjoy your car............and respect your elders :)

Hey is that a 69 I used to have a Mustang just like that.:p

Where is this dairy queen gtg located in texas.
Theres one down the road from me.
What I meant about the people talking about others is that everyone at the dairy queen is involved in the same car club and i picked up on the typical high school like drama, he said she said stuff....
About the dramatic parked cars thing, theres northing about it dramatic, people make it that way, I know people who drag race at 190+ mph complain less.... Just a personal observation.

Someone told me the other day (long time ago):

"It´s a Mustang?"

Then I think..... It´s time to Kill
