hello,
I have a 1967 L35 open air element, just wanted to know what the correct air filter mesh came from the factory, should the mesh be diamond or square mesh ,thanks for your help.....jeff:thumbsup:
If that's the A212CW element, the configuration of the wire mesh changed over the years, but the '66-'67-era A212CW is as shown in the photo below; it was made from round wire, creating squares, oriented diagonally, with the wire intersections solder-dipped, with a yellowish paper element. Later production and service elements had several different square orientations, and had expanded-metal instead of soldered wire screens.

Paragon had the best reproduction of the '66-'67 A212CW for years, but the supplier quit making them about a year ago; it's currently being re-tooled, and will probably be available again sometime next year. Originals commonly bring $2K-$3K if you can find them.

:beers:

John, I was under the impression that the mesh like your pic was also correct for 69, and that sometime late 69 or early 70, it changed so the wire ran horizontally and vertically rather than diagonally.
What would be correct for 69?
What about 70?

And I'll chirp in here too. My understanding was that the production element in 69 was originally square horizontal whereas the replacement A212CW offered by the dealer was the new tooled diagonal!!

Amazing how hard it is to backward research when cars are 40+ and memories get hazy!

I checked the Zip Corvettes web site for air filters, they list the bias cut mesh filter is used on 66-70 and the hoziontal cut mesh filter is used on 71-72.
.... right, and when my car was judged at Carlisle they told me the correct

one should have been horizontal.... rather than my then bias wire filter...

I'm trying to stop fretting about stuff like this.....:boring:

I miss my twin oil bath cleaners on my 54 Hudson!;)
