I agree with the $30-$35K assessment of value.

Frame off in 98??? Those underneath photos doesnt look like it was a very well detailed frame off resto to me.

The "frame off" was actually done around 1987, the only thing I did in '98 was pull the motor. To what resto "degree" is uncertain. Having owned the car, there were questions in my mind...anyone else thinking of buying, shoot me a note !

Hi,
i looked at all the pics funbnme put a link to, I have a question. The power steering pump in one of those pictures. Is that an original pump? I thought that all the 69's used a pump that looks round with the cylindrical filler tube going up to the cap. I have had trouble getting one like the picture to fit on my car. Anyone confirm which is the correct pump?
Thanks
RJ

Nick do you have a pic of the backside showing the return hose nipple location. I have a new rebuilt pump here that was shipped wrong and I think it is for a 69 Camaro w/sb.
Thanks.

I'm in that same boat.. what to get?? I want a car to drive, that's dependable, and holds it's value. BUT, that being said, I also like the idea of laying out some cash for a nice Z and sticking it the garage. I think Dan was right, you (and probably me) would be happier with a nice SS. Actually, I don't mind just a regular coop.

I've seen that Z that you're talking about, he's lowerd the price recently but I forgot to what. Who is McNeish? the ad went on and on about him, felt like he was trying to really sell that point. But, it was a cool car. .. now I can't remember where I saw it, was gonna take another look at it.
Jerry McNeish is generally recognized as the most knowledgeable person on first gen Z's and has written books on how to identify them and provides a "certification" inspection process. IF you are truly interested in a "real" Z, you should consider retaining his service. There are more Z's, especially 69's out there now than the factory produced.

Mitch,

I dont have one saved, but give me a couple of days and I will dig the car back out and get one for you.

:beers:
Thanks Nick.....

If the one I have is correct, I can feel better about selling it to get my money back.

I would recomend that you buy the book from MacNeish titled "The Definitive Fact Book". It has helped many of us.

Hold out for what you really want. From my experience, the wishing you had gotten the RS model you started searching for doesn't go away. You may end up with a nice non-RS Z, but every time you see a nice RS model, the old nagging will still be there. With the economy where it is and no light in the tunnel for now, I believe more cars are going to come up for sale. If you have the cash, when you find the right one you have bargaining power to negotiate a reasonable price.
Good luck.......:)
