I seem to be having trouble with my ftp site, but mine didn't need a bracket on top like Eric has, with the stock style alternator, the strap bolted directly to the alternaor without a problem.
I would like to use this setup vette lower 14015510 and upper 460755 is discontinued but I can have a Chevy dealer locate at another dealer and I can call and get it(or do what you did Jim and get a top bkt. from autozone), but my question is , are you using the stock Camaro crank and water pump pullys for short water pump 2 grove ??? if so done deal will order... Thanks in advance Happy Motoring

Paul, Part "F" is the one we had trouble with. The tabs for the alternator are straight, the GM factory bracket has upward reaching tabs. The difference is, the part F bracket didn't allow the alternator to swing inward enough to reach the adjustment bracket at the top. Also it broke! The prior owner bolted an extension on to the adjuster to lengthen it. With the Vette bracket, we can use the last two inches of the adjuster bracket, we can't swing the alt in any farther or it hits the valve cover which is a medium height aftermarket cover. A lower cover would help a lot.

I originally bought the vette upper strap and it didn't work for me worth a damn. It had too sharp a curve at the top, wanted the alternator to be much closer to the valve cover than my valve covers would allow. With a longer belt, the bracket hit the top of the alt!

I used a generic strap from Mr. Gasket, found it on the shelf at autozone.

I'm using all stock mostly original pulleys, lines up perfect.

Before I bought the March adjusting rod, I cut a piece of strap metal.....eyeballed the length and drilled a hole at each end....it was a straight shot so there was no chance of bending...see my pic above a couple posts.

Thanks Guy's ,and Jim just what I wanted to here, that my stock pully's will work ( line up ) I will be ordering the bottom today and eather the generic or march upper and napa 25XL7550 belt, it's 55 3/4" (this was from you earlier post ) Jim.
,Thank's again and always safe and Happy Motoring...

Just to clarify, I bought 14015510 from my friend who manages a local Chevy parts department in October 2007. It was discontinued for a while. The original was steel. The latest design is cast aluminum. The upper strap is discontinued.

I did have to space out the bracket as I do not have a triple groove lower pulley. I found some 1/4 inch stock and made spacers as you can see in my pic above. It lines up with the fan pulley no problem.

I'm just bumping this back up since I dont know if there was an answer and I'm in the same situation. I'd rather not go with new heads since mine are fine for now. No holes though to mount anything. I have the bracket that Mr. Pozzi said broke on his so now I'm a little worried. Any ideas?

Well, no holes kinda counts this thread out, we all got holes!

Alan Grove makes a nice drivers side alternator bracket set that works very well and doesn't require heads with holes. It's a lil more $$$ than the vette bracket.
Yes, I saw the Alan Grove bracket. From their web site it looks like it sits kind of high up. Just looking for options where there doesn't seem to be any..

The one that broke on our 68 was the common aftermarket "F" bracket that bolts to another bracket off the header, "D" in the photo. Our alternator would not swing inward very far at all, the alternator hit the bracket, which may be why it broke after a while. The stock Camaro bracket has two ears that don't just come straight out to the alternator, they go out and UP. The factory bracket is also thicker steel. If you can find a stock bracket, and bolt that to bracket "D". That would be the best combo for a non drilled cyl head.

Before I went to the vette bracket, I broke item D in David's pic. One a year for three years, then I said "enough is enough."
When I put on a set of Iron Eagle heads (with accessories holes) I went with the vette bracket. Haven't had bracket trouble, thrown a belt, or needed to replace a belt since.

I used the original "F", never had a problem with that.

If the brackets in the photo were made of cold rolled steel and one size thicker, they'd last forever. I had the factory bracket "F" on a welded tab similar to D but welded on to the header flange, ran the heck out of the car for over 75,000. miles with no problems.

I think it's a quality issue not so much a design issue.

By the way, I have heard of the Corvette aluminum bracket breaking too! I think one of the ears broke off where the alt bolt is.

Hmmm, well I might have a set of aluminum heads in my near future (thanks Jay if you are lurking) so I might end up ditching what I have now. I really wanted to get some other stuff done before I did more engine work but we'll see. Just itching to get back on the road! Thanks again for the input. I'll putz around a little more with what I have and see if I can dupicate the d and the f that I have now, only a little stonger, or figure something else out.
