The old cams are nothing like new cams. The old 30/30 cams have so much duration and a wide LSA that 11-1 is usaully no problem with 93 octane gas. I would never use an old cam with road gears. Those older designs do not produce the torque of new grinds. The best use for an old grind is in an origanal car, or pure stock racing.

The comp extreme line is a great power producer but it is noisy and its life span is shortened because of the aggressive ramps on the cam. The extreme line is also hard on your pushrods, rockers, valves and valve seats because the cam has aggresive ramps. I like the old cams myself but thats just because Im a pure stock guy, the new cams will out produce old cams and can use a lower compression ratio to run well.

Its like comparing the new LS6 corvette engine vs the old LS6 chevelle engine. The new design will win but it doesnt have the same look, feel, or sound of the old one.
