12 bolt 1st gen. Camaro / Nova housing w 3.73 R&P with a spool and cut down to 42" drum to drum. What is it worth as it sits?

and can it be extended back to it's original length (60 1/4) using other donor 10 bolt tubes? If so, how would I proceed? Section in the outer axle tubes of a 10 bolt donor I have?

Pretty sure the answer is yes, but you should post the question in the "Transmission and Driveline" forum as the few experts there might not look here very often.;)

good advice

To remove the tubes from the center section would be a lot of work. The tube is welded all the way around the tube where it joints the center section. It might be plug welded in certain areas. There is a chance it could be welded inside the housing.

An easier way would be to cut the tube and use a sleeve to extend the axle length. After cutting the axle tube, drill holes in the 12 bolt tube for future plug welds. Measure the inside diameter of the tube. Buy a new tube that has an outside diameter the same as the inside diameter of the original tube. Slide and/or press the new tube into the old tube. The new tube will become a sleeve so that the axle length can be extended. This sleeve will provide the strength needed to join two tubes together.

Buy another new tube that is the same size as the original 12 bolt one. Drill holes in it for future plug welds. Slide this tube over the sleeve so that it butts up against the original factory tube. Weld the two outer tubes together and to the inner sleeve. Plug weld the inner tube to the two outer tubes. Now weld the endcaps on the new extended tube.

Weld new mounting perches to the axle. Go to an axle shop and have the assembly straightened from all the welding. Buy longer splined axles. Buy something to replace the spool if this is a street car. Buy new bearings and gaskets.

That is narrowed to the point of being useless except maybe for a pro street build...
