I have a 1968 327 with a 4-speed and I want to swap it for a 700r4. Does anyone have any experience doing this? Can you tell me which crossmember, driveshaft and shifter I need? I want to make the swap as painless as possible so any tips, tricks or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys.

Make sure you get a core from 87 or up. They added an accumulator in 87 that fixed that annoying hard shift into Drive. I had a 83 core and the shift from Park into Drive was brutal, annoying and IMPO helped destroy the crankshaft thrust bearing in my motor. Also, invest in GOOD TV cable setup as this is the most important part of the 700. Get it right and you'll enjoy it, get it wrong and you'll be looking for another 700 soon.

...I've been on the fence with what trans switch to do myself... but since you mention this added accumulator in '87 (for the 700R4)
...is there a similar hard shift issue with the 200R, ...and if so, ...what years should be avoided there?

Thanks,

Kevin

I used a 200r4 from an 86 monte SS, didn't really notice a big thump from park to drive. While it was not an 'easy' swap, it is do-able by most of us. I swapped a pg to 200r4, so the shifter and pedals did not have to be touched. But since you have a 4 speed, I would recommend a manual OD trans, that way you don't need to remove the clutch pedal.
