Hey so I'm new to the Camaro world. I don't actually own one yet, but I am in the process of owning one. I have my eye on this 1981 Z28. The guy who currently owns it has put a LT1 from a 94 Corvette in this thing. It's built for racing but is completely street legal. There's other work done as well. When I originally found it, he had it listed for $7000OBO but now he has dropped it to $6000 because it needs a new battery and fuel pump. The car other than that looks to be in good condition. I'm just worried with a price that low if there's more to it than what he's leading on. Anyone have some ideas or advice?

Well, it makes me wonder if it just needed a fuel pump and a battery, why he wouldn't fix it and get more for it.

I'm thinking there is more wrong with it.

Is it a complete LT1 with fuel injection?

Yeah those were my thoughts too. And as far as I know. I asked him about the engine last time but didn't get all that specific. I asked for any videos he had of it running and never got a reply

You really think that's a great deal for an '81? "Built for racing" is a pretty subjective term. The LT1 isn't worth all that much and 81 I don't think is a highly desirable year for Camaros. No disrepect intended if 81 is your year! Obviously that's just my opinion, but I would think more along the lines of $4-5k if it's pretty clean unless built for racing means a lot more than just an LT1 transplant and maybe a roll cage. Body, interior will also play a huge part. Any pics?

Sharp looking car. A lot to work with, but IMO still $4-5k at most. They didn't even bother taking the A/C suitcase out when they dropped the LT1 in it. They went with carb vs the LT1 EFI. It's definitely not "built for racing" like the ad reads. I really do like the looks of it and it has a lot of potential, but it's an 81 that someone dropped an LT1 in and put a roll cage in. Probably stock rear end and tranny.

The LT1 of course has no provision for a mechanical fuel pump.

In that one engine pic it looks like there is an electric pump mounted on the RH fenderwell. Never a good thing.

If it was me I'd pass.

are those iron heads? i might be calling BS on 'corvette' motor if so.

"new racing seats with a 5 point harness" - has to go, at least those belts - not legal here in NJ. it looks like it has an old hooker show bar in it so there is no way those belts are installed safely.

thank god he put dime store gauges in that 81 only console. yikes. and those ugly *** wheels lol

the list of half *** is long which is a red flag. it gets down to quality of body and how solid it is.

bright side on AC stuff is you can make it work again.

$2000 car assuming no rust as it does not run.

If new to any kind of car, not just the Camaro, the last one I'd want is one that had been modified.
