Hi guys,
Exciting and disappointing day yesterday. Finally got my Camaro on the road for a drive after years of slow working on it. Was nice to drive around except that the car pings when I get on the gas. Under light load and steady cruising it's not pinging.
I run 93 octane fuel. Fuel is about 2 months old. CR is ~9.8-10.0 w/ Iron Vortec heads.
I just started diagnosing the problem, and don't have a lot of experience in this area. So I started by pulling the plugs to take a look. The spark plugs are a fairly even shade of darker tan-lt. orange when I pulled them. Hard to describe, but similar to picture #14 on this web site (http://www.dansmc.com/Spark_Plugs/Spark_Plugs_catalog.html ), except that my coloring was more event and not speckled like in the photo.
The engine seemed a bit warm, 180 sitting still, although I think maybe the sensor is a bit off (ie. wrong temp sensor for electric guage). Car starts nice and easy. There's a smell which I would equate to richness when running, but looking at the plugs I would think I should see some black (carbon) on there and I don't.
Any and all suggestions are appreaciated.
