2 grooves on input shaft = close or wide ratio?

The easiest way to tell is to put the trans. in first gear and turn the input shaft one revolution and count the number of times the output shaft turns.
If it turns about 2-1/4 times, close ratio.
If it turns about 2-1/2 times, wide ratio.
After 30+ years, it may have been repaired or rebuilt at some time and different parts used.
