I have just had a 200R4 transmission installed in my 68 RS. This is complete H/D rebuilt unit with a 2000 stall speeed convertor. For the installation I used the 200R4 crossmember from BowTie. This is a nice unit and the fit is very good. The stock exhaust had to be modified as the new cross-member is tubular and as a result the bottom of it sits lower interfering with the exhaust. However this was not an issue. My car had a column shift and as such I do not have enought travel to engage first gear manually. I have used a Lokar multi fit kit that is quite adjustable however it appears that the restriction is in the steering column linkage???
Also with this set-up the shift indicator does not line up correctly ( reverse and nuetral). The nuetral lock safety switch does not seem to be compatable with the 200R4 transmission as when it is in neutral the neutral switch is the correct position and the car will not start in neutral. However with the reverse selected the car will start. Not a good thing being able to start the car while it is engaged in reverse.!!!:( I have not changed over to a new overdrive four speed gear indicator, as they do not appear to have the proper spacing on the indicator to show what gear is selected. Does anyone have any information which may be able to address these issues?
On the road the unit runs great the only concern is that it seems to shift early from first to second, however that may be just the way they are?? Shifts into 4th (overdrive) between 5- 55 MPH. Thanks

Before messing with the governor I'd try and and adjust the TV cable one click tighter at a time - it also has a definite effect on shift timing. My experience is that a tighter TV adjustment results in a later and firmer shift. The possible downside is that - depending on your TV bracketry, etc - WOT might pull it back out of adjustment.

(I'm not a trans expert - just relaying my experience)

Re: 200R4 Tramsmission

I am still the process of determining actual make and model of 200R4 transmission.
The number on the tag on the tail shaft is: 117-2185HE114. these is also another H E on the tag.
I cannot find information on the above number/codes. The information I have is:
KZF Olds 442/Hurst
CZF 85-88 Monte Carlo SS
CRF 85-88 LG4 305 Monte Carlo/Grand Prix
BRF 86 - 87 GN/T-Type Turbo Regal
BQ 84-85 Gn?T - Type Turbo Regal
BR 83 Model T-Type
TAF 89 Pontiac Trans AM
OZ Hurst Olds
OM Olds 350 Diesel
OG Ids 307
BY V-6 252cCars
AA Cadillac
AP Cadillac
9TA 98 Pontiac Tranc Am
3OZ, 4OZ, 5OZ, 6KZ, 7KZ --83 -87 Hurst Olds/Cutlas 442 3.73
4CQ, 5 CQ, 6CZ, 7CZ, 8CZ -- 84 -88 monte Carlo SS 305 G 3.73
3BR, 4BQ, 5BQ, 6BR, 7BR, -- 83 - 87 Buick Regal Type -T GN/GNK

None of the above match the serial number /code on mt transmission. Can anyone shed some light on to what my 200R4 transmission is out of???? Thanks

I can't help you with the tag, but I bet if you use google you can find something. Even if you do find something, I don't think it means much unless you're sure the trans had never been apart. AFAIK, it's the valve body that sets these things apart. There was something "magical" about the BRF valve body that made it desireable. I'm pretty sure the rest of the internals are the same....

If your valve body hasn't been tanked or blasted, the model code is likely still painted on....here is a photo of mine.....307 Olds which absolutely screams performance. Good luck!

After doing some additional checking it appears that my 200r4 transmission 117-2185HE114 is form a 1984 Caprice, DeVille, Impala, LaSabre, Parrisienne W/v-8 305 L Canada.
If this is correct it would also explain the lower shift points due to being installed on a heavier lower performance vehicle in comparison to one installed in a Buick GN or Monte Carlo SS. What is the consciences?? Any confirmation on the HE transmission code?
Thanks
