Sunday i went to a local annual car show..like 600 cars so they start judging.. i mark the catergory as stock ,theres a 69 convt next to mine (mint) the so called judge asks me if mine is stock i tell him matching number stock. he says this isnt stock it has headers and chrome parts on the motor. he says this isnt stock.. so he sees the convt next to me and says i know this car isnt stock, makes the guy change the catergory he marked and leaves mine alone....then puts a blue sticker on the convt, and a red one on mine..so i figure he got a first place trophy, and i got 2nd....wrong!! he got 2nd and i got 3rd. tell ya the truth im sick of these bull**** car shows..truthfully its not the stupid plastic little trophy,,its the process of judging that annoys me ..i mean who are these guys ? .theres no way my car is a 3rd place car...there was junk there thats 3rd pl and i guess they thought mine was part of it..tell ya honestly im through with car shows..just venting..thnks john

Wow you have a nice Camaro. The local judged shows are always this way. Buy a set of Poly glass tires and get everything as correct as you can and start going to Antique Automobile Club of America national shows or Good Guys. You are just looking for trouble at some of the local shows.

John your car is sweet, what took first ? I don't do very many shows anymore classification is always a issue I like going to crusin better just hang out & talking to the people. At alot of shows there is always the cars that what I call big check book cars. These guys just wright a check & do none of the work. I have been at shows where these guys have people clean their cars & come trophy time then they walk up & get the trophy.I have alot of money in my car but I do 95% work but what it is , is what it is.

Thanks Harv Yeh I'm not going to attend anymore. First place went to alot of cars there were like 600 of them there don't get me wrong the first place ones i've seen were beautiful but mines not 3rd place worthy . Judges my *** these guys are probably retired office workers.

Well, welcome to the world of car shows.
Judges are D bags, and the people usually are too.
For me, there is nothing fun about parked cars and no reason for the people there to take it as seriously as they do.
There is LESS drama in drag racing with 17-18 yr old kids doing 200mph in the 1/4 than ADULTS sitting in a freaking parking lot.
My dad and I used to take our car to the shows, until people became discouraging, so now we either go to later 4th-5th gen meets and follow my cousin around the country drag racing.

Was this a local AACA club chapter show or a National official AACA show? If national you lost 25 points or so with the BFG radial TA's. Radials are a big no no if the car came with bias ply. Anyhow you have a great Camaro.

The small shows around the DFW area are judged by the participants and most of that is " if you vote for mine I'll vote for yours". This was verified by a friend that ran many of the car shows for several years.

I used to do the car show thing in '93 when I was in High School and then Byron Dragway opened back up. Dragracing is all I did after that, there is no political B.S. The only thing I will go to for a car show is a cruise night or a week night drive in/car night.

Did your car come with headers from the dealer? If not then they are not stock so it cannot be in a stock class. If you got 3rd in a stock class and you had aftermarket parts then you did pretty good in my book. I am guessing that the "Caution Fan" sticker did not help either :)

You have a beautiful car, but if it was a concours class that expects everything to be correct like it left the factory floor, then you have a lot of little details wrong that need to be corrected. Like someone mentioned, the street radials and "caution fan" sticker, headers, aftermarket valve covers, as well as non-factory radiator cap, battery cables, black tail panel on a small block car, etc. - all of these things get nailed by the hard core judges. I have been amazed at some of the minute details that can detract from the overall score of a car in some of these shows - things like incorrect valve stems, wrong air filters, etc. Once again, do not take this the wrong way - it is an absolutely great car, but it just depends on the class it is entered in. Also, a lot of these smaller shows are nothing more than a popularity contest and whatever stands out to the judges. It's just not worth getting upset over. Just enjoy driving and showing off the car, and don't sweat the trophies.

Bill No it didnt come with headers. And i know some items on there don't make it factory.. i was under the assumption that a matching car meant the drivetrain,,and that is what it is to me.The other goodies was added on by me..well except the rear tail panel ,,that came with the car. All im tlkg about is the cars that were placed in 3rd along with mine,,half of them didnt even belong in the dam show.. lol ehh forget it im actually wasting my energy stressing this bs.lol

Isn't that the truth! If you think about it, where would all the shows get qualified people to judge for them? All but very specific sanctioned shows by classic car organizations are nothing more than a "what do you like best" show!

Judges don't have qualifications, they are friends of the organizors, public officials or other public figures and sometimes others showing their cars at the same show!

Go to these shows for the social aspect they provide, don't go looking for an award! And if you do end up with one don't snuff it because you think you deserve better...

Try a Mustang Club of America show. These judges are hardcore. Checking every part number they can find and then some. Just go and have fun. Without local shows and cruise-ins we loose the chance to meet fellow car nuts like ourselves. Would be fun to have a Team Camaro Show or cruise sometime. :) Then there would be some real bickering for sure! :)
