Hello, it is my dream to have a 3rd gen corvette with a 5.3 LS and a T56. My goal would be to build it to around 550-600 horsepower. I’ve looked at speedway motors and they are saying to achieve 600 hp is to turbo it. Then they said for about 500 horsepower I would cam it and use nos, I don’t know if I want to deal with nos or not. I do want to put a cam in it for obvious reasons. Any input?

Why the 5.3? Boneyard availability? LS swaps aren't necessarily cheap. If the 5.3 gets you where you want to be on budget go for it. Keep in mind that a LS3 doesnt have to work nearly as hard as a 5.3 to get to the same place.

Nitrous is much easier to deal with using an auto tranny vs a stick. If you go this way make sure you use a window switch or you will need a new engine. As stated above LS3 might be a better starting point.

Boosted engines can make big time power but most street cars really can’t take full advantage of it due to traction limits. This is even tougher with a manual tranny and IRS rear end.

While not low dollar, the Chevy crate LS376-B15 would be a much better starting point vs a 5.3. More displacement, better heads and stronger block. Procharger, Maggie or Whipple are easier installs vs turbo, engine space on a C3 is not all that generous.

My posting was to give the OPer an option to satisfy his wants/ needs to attain his goals not to compare it to your engine. I'm sure some of the parts on your stroker LS engine are primo but for 5500.00 less I would take the long block for $4500, the guys even willing to change the cam. Your engine has a pretty aggressive cam profile @ .248/ 258 duration thats not too street friendly plus Crower solid roller lifters/ shaft rockers are a nice touch but really not needed unless you plan some high rpm driving. One of the main reasons I went to LS platform was that I wanted to get away from carbs. You'll probably have better luck selling a engine like this on LS1tech to the racing crowd.

I read it quick thought it was a short block. But there’s still lot parts that add up price wise. valve covers, intake, oil pan. Timing covers, balancer, computer of some sort. Front end accessories. I but at least 3k more to spend being conservative. It’s totally cool if someone doesn’t want mine at this point. I will buy a smaller solid cam for it and put a Whipple on it. I even have headers for mine. All said and done it’s worth the extra couple grand. I just have that and two sb2 nascar Chevy motors. Don’t need em anymore.

Not to derail this thread but the post I referenced has valve covers, oil pan but not for a F body, front and rear covers. For 3-4 grand I could get a Holley Terminator ECM or even Fitech for even less, complete LS3 intake and the rest of the peripherals(look at ICT billet for inexpensive front drives) including headers. Not saying your engine isn't worth it, just not stuff I would use on street driven car, racing maybe a carb but even then I would run Megasquirt and fuel injected.
