Hello Everyone!

So i've see many post on the topic but multiple answer so not sure what all to follow. Here's the deal I have a 1969 Camaro that has a 427 bbc in it with a built turbo 400, 12 in rear with 3.73 ; I also got a vintage air system in the car and a 4 core 1in alum raditor. So i just bought a 572 GM crate motor the 620hp version. The issues im trying to find out is what kinda header do I need exactly, oil pan, and will that fit under my two in cowl hood? My mechanic is also my best friend he's been building hot rods for like 40 years but, i'm kinda wanting to order everything so it's all here and we can drop this thing in a few days rather than waiting and order and re ordering so trying to see what all issues everyone has. Also it's got manuel breaks and steering so those shouldn't be an issue. So this is gonna be a street car, maybe goto the strip for fun. But pure street weekend car. So looking for suggestions and part numbers... I already called lemonheaders for headers for the 572 bbc tall block but 1600$ and 6-8 weeks waiting for them doesn't sound appealing for me so maybe just gonna grab soe doug headers. The other issue was what type of oil pan will i need for this what i was seeing was primarily milodon type of oil pan but which one and a part number would be great. So any advice or issue that y'all ran into installing would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance

so to recap
Installing a 572 GM BBC tall deck into 69 camaro
Turbo 400 tranny
12 bolt rear end 3.73 gear
Vintage air a/c
Manuel brakes and steering
4 core 1in alum radiator w fan clutch but was thinking of going electric
Has Super Comp Hooker Headers currently in previously 427 BBC
Issues on should i get electric fan and water pump, what type of fuel pump manuel or electric, gonna leave the stock 572 together but gonna change intakes and for a 1050 dominator down the road, and gonna buy the 4 link suspension out of camaro classic industries with 9in and 4.56 gear and put in my gear vendor. But my main concern is to first get it all plumped in on its current setup

If anyone has previously done a full install and can give me advice or have a video or posting on facebook I can look at or if you don't mind me calling and getting all the information i'd be willing to pay for your time. Thank you everyone in advance for the help and advice

I have a 572 that I just dropped into mine. Apparently Doug's makes a set in the high $700 range if I remember correctly, but when I called them for info, they refused to sell me a pair because I had an aftermarket sub-frame set-up. Chris Alston also makes a pair that are a bit pricey. I ended up going with Lemon's - let me tell you that the wait was well worth it! The fitment is absolutely amazing and the quality is second to none! I even have manual clutch linkage that has plenty of room. I do not remember which Milodon oil pan I used on my set-up, but it was recommended both by my sub-frame supplier(Martz Chassis) and from Dan Lemon's himself. This will be homework you have to do as it will depend both on your header manufacturer and your sub-frame manufacturer. Good luck!

I'm just finishing up installing a tall deck 494 built from an 8.0L 489ci block. What a bitch! I wouldn't go tall deck again unless there was a real good reason for it.
You're on the right track. Intake, headers, alternator bracket, brake booster and oil pan. Those are the only big ones that come to mind. I modified a set of headers I had to fit. Standard deck ones are too wide and will hit the floor.
Oil pan - Custom. Basically it's the stock one off the motor that's been cut and re-welded to fit around the subframe.
Brake Booster - I got tricky with the booster to keep it stock looking. Most guys will either go hydraboost or just get a smaller booster.
Accessory brackets - I created my own out of stock brackets. I wanted everything to look basically stock.
Intake - I bought a World Products intake. Unless you go the spacer route, tall deck intakes are pretty limited. If you do go with spacers, you'll need a tall deck specific or a slip collar distributor.
Fuel pump - I went with a mechanical fuel pump, but you have to make sure your cam has the fuel pump lobe. My original one didn't.

Before the new intake:

Being a tall deck accounts for most of your issues. Address the truck oil pan issue first (it won't fit your chassis). I used a Moroso seven quart with kick outs and matching oil pump pick up to bolt to my one piece rear main seal block. That allows you to trial fit your motor to see what will fit such as your existing set of headers. Try them as you have nothing to loose, and it will show you where the problem is.

As to headers: Lemon's is guaranteed to fit, no other set of off the shelf header are. This doesn't mean you cant ding or heat and bend the tubes or cut out and weld in a piece of tubing to clear; it is just that you will be making your own custom headers. I address the problem by buying a do it yourself weld up header kit. I then took it to a local muffler shop and six hours later I had a complete from head to rear bumper exhaust system. It fit perfectly and I had access to plugs.

A tall deck block pushes the heads up and out bringing the the primary tubes closer to the steering gear box, the upper control arms, and master cylinder booster. It also changes the geometry of where the tubes are routed which could hit the sub frame or interfere with the clutch linkage. As to the brackets the tall deck was used in medium duty trucks and buses so alternator brackets and power steering brackets exist. The taller truck distributor will work, but the aftermarket makes HEI or CD compatible distributors that also fit.

Under hood room will be restricted. A BBC is two inches taller than a SBC. Add a tall deck and you only exasperate the issue, as it is half inch taller at the carb. Add a 4500 tall intake and you are looking at a hood scoop or hole in the hood.

He bought the tall deck 572 BBC crate motor already assembled from GMPP.

Chevy could have built their 572 using a standard deck height as the bow tie block supports a crank stroke of 4.500 inches and the 572 uses a 4.375 inch stroke one piece rear main seal Callies crankshaft. I used the same stroke crank in a standard deck height Dart block bored 4.600 to make my 582. I put 402 decals on it and had a lot of fun surprising people with that motor installed in a 1985 four door Impala body.
