Although it didn't come with a fold down rear seat, I'm installing one in my 1969 Camaro coupe. It's an option that you don't see a lot and I have it and like it. The seat is out of a 1969 Firebird. I had the seat installed with the firebird interior a long time ago so I could get the mounting brackets welded into the correct position. I've since upgraded to a deluxe white and black houndstooth interior, and the back seat hasn't been installed yet. Don't really like the look of the rear seat partition and was wondering what others have done in that area. Would like it to extend down to the floor to cover that area also when the seat is folded down. Although not my car (it's from a 1968 I think I found on this site
) I've included a picture for reference. I did search the forums but those that I found all had the stock setup. Thanks in advance for your ideas. Pictures of what you have done or seen would also help.

I doubt it. That's a stock 67 fold down seat and partition. He's looking for something other than the stock partition. And while I agree the fold down seat could have been better designed (like getting rid of that huge gap which allows everything in the world to fall through it into a black hole!), it's about the only option you have. I've not seen anything other than the stock partition. However, if you've seen something that interests you, email it to me and I'll post it for you. I believe you have to have 10 (?) posts before you can post pictures.

The picture was to verify the plain Jane cover is what he is wanting to dress up, because he couldn’t upload a picture. And yes, the black hole swallows up everything…including french fries. Mine didn’t come with my car either, and was another $50 please make me an offer so I don’t have to drag it home deal from Carlisle. I remember putting the top down to get the pieces home, and turning the heater on too.
Isn’t the gap in the middle to clear the driveshaft tunnel on the floorboard? 😆😆😆😆
And yes, it’s a 67 setup in a 68, but I couldn’t find a latch, so it was end clipped.

Back to the OP, I’ve seen very few fold downs, but I remember one at a car show that was actually an upholstered piece that matched the seats/interior. It looked pretty good, and I wish I had a picture to share, because it looked like it belonged there from new. Think deluxe seat vinyl on the board with the emblem inserts, that mimicked the part that folded down.

This is my 67 stock fold down seat. PO did have the interior re-upholstered. The rear panel is just covered in black with the bottom edge sitting in a metal channel and 3 screws on the upper part holding it in

The center "hump" (gap) of the folded down part is to clear center drive shaft hump when in upright position.

FWIW I don't eat french fries in the rear seat so for me the cavity exposed by the hump recess on rear back seat has not been an issue. I assume one could make an insert to "plug" it while seat is down if that is what is being discussed. My dog however loves the carpeted fold down seat

I get a lot of "wow, that seat is cool" comments. Whoever ordered the car checked the box for fold down seat. Would be interesting to know that cost option

The 60's and 70's Volkswagens had fold down rear seats and they had a small piece of carpet that covered the gap (see below). You could probably do something like that with using a long piece of carpet glued to the partition and takes the place of the seat back carpet.

To answer SoCal805's question, from CRG, option A67, folding rear seat was $31.60 in 1967 and $42.15 in 1968 and 1969.
Thanks for that 411

Don't know if the car was ordered by dealer or actual customer but happy my 67 has one. $31.60 was a "noticeable" $ in 67

So GM would of had 3 different seat backs. Standard coupe, Standard Vert and then the fold down back that would work in coupe & Vert. The coupes that had them would otherwise have the Vert bottom and 1/4 interior panels

From my understanding the back hold downs at top of back seat were changed in 68 but for me my 67 versions hold well. Have to give it a medium tug to detach it to fold down. To me, the weight of the fold down is no big deal. I assume it is heavier than a standard back given the rear frame, wood & carpet covering vs just an open back of a standard one

My guess is all bodys had either the holes or welded in nuts for the hinge attachment at bottom of rear back to attach. Never pulled mine out to see if the bolts are sheet metal or machine threaded

I had 68 RS with fold down as well. Really cool but really heavy. I also had 75 Nova hatchback, rear seat folded down and had hinged sheet metal panel about 12" tall and the length of the rear seat. It sealed off the gap on the Nova. Perhaps you can find one and modify that to work? A few pics of Nova hatchbacks you can see the closeout panel attached to the rear seat. Probably 74-79 were the same.

so, the only difference is what I was aware of, 67 has a different latch/hold down than 68-69. Standard vs deluxe interior side panels being different as in any 1st gen (relative to the fold down ones) but the fold down themselves are common with the difference being the latch difference between 67 and the 68-69 years. Obviously, the back section is different relative to the latch systems between the 2 variants

....unless I am missing something else in the thread you noted

Except that the backs, other than maybe the hinges aren’t common since the have the differences you noted. Can’t use a 67 back set up with a 68-9 latch. Can’t use a 68-9 set up wit 67 latches.
