How difficult is a conversion on a 69 SS from the 'Big Eye' lamps to the RS hideaways? Is it a straight grill swap + the vaccuums, or is there a significant amount of mod work to make the grill fit? Help me Obi Wan Camaro...

No expert on this thread at all but I do believe that you need the tabs that come on the fenders for the RS grill that are usually removed or bent back out of the way. You may want to check and see if yours are still there.

You will need to drill the firewall for the vacumn lines that run to your headlight switch. You'll need to change the headlight switch. You'll need to drill your inner fenders to allow the bellcrank assembly to go through and more holes in the inner fenders to mount the vacumn tank. If you want a factory appearance you'll need a RS wiper motor pump.

There's more but the point is that it is not really an easy thing to do if you want everything to work as it should and look as it should. If you really want to do it, the aftermarket folks sell a complete RS conversion kit that will have just about everything you need. They run around $950.00

I just completed the conversion. You can check some of my pics - not all are there though. The guys on this site have helped a lot. You will need to drill some small holes in the inner fenders, drill, using a hole saw - for the head light assembly, but not that bad. The kit comes with the replacement headlight switch. As for the vaccum hoses...Ijust ran them around the radiator support. Give it a try and if you get stuck take a break....have a beer and post a message here.

I bought a fully electric kit from DSE (Detroit Speed and Engineering) and it seems to be much easier to install than an OEM vacuum style kit. I think it may even be cheaper. I have all the hardware in place but have not ran all the electrics yet so I can't tell you how it works. Check them out.

And what I haven't seen the conversion kits provide is the correct backup lights and tail lights. RS's have the backup light below the bumper, not in the tail light. There's wiring differences too, of course. The factory cut-out for the RS lights is dye cut. (sharp and clean) Tough to do.
