I am looking to see if any one knows what the corect top of the 69 z/28 dip stick is to be ie. round ,flat , green tip , no tip.

And their is a part # on the dip stick can any one pull theirs(if know) to be correct and let me know what that # is

Lastly does any one know the correct length of the dip stick from tip to the mount base at the base of the handle.

Thanks

No plastic tip on an original 302 dipstick - the curl area was flattened

Has Legends judging changed to ACCEPT the Green Tip? Most ORIGINAL Z28,s I have looked at have the flattened curl end, including my own Z28 and a 6,000K LT1 engine I own, as well as a 20,000K SURVIVOUR Z28.

If legends judging won't accept the green tip , then IMO they are wrong.
The length and wording on the two sticks are identical, and that 6041 MS oil designation was used in 69 and 70 only.

It is silly to think that all 302's had only the flat tip. The two sticks were interchanged throughout all the SB-V8 Camaros, Novas, Impalas, & Chevelles.
From what I have seen in all my trips to junk yards -- Both styles were used with no rhyme or reason simultaneously on the production line.
Similar to the two 772 fan versions.

I don't believe it was a Flint/Tonnawanda thing either as I have seen both with both sticks used

I wasn't there -
but I find it hard to believe that both styles were used on EVERY other SB Chevrolet V8 including the Camaro L48,
but the Z/28 required a particular selection from the parts bin?
Also - I don't think it was part of the bright accents package that the 302 engines received because the flat tip was widely used on many base engine applications as well.

John Z has posted a pic of the flattened tip style in this thread....http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=201518&highlight=dip+stick

Have you checked the AIM ? Dunno about 69 but using 68 as an example, grey tip is shown for all small blocks. It actually says V-8's are grey, then you need to check the specific engine RPO to see if it says otherwise (L34/35 yellow tip, no mention of L30/48 or Z/28).... Part numbers are listed as well.

btw, my 68 L30 had the flattened tip exactly the same as the one JohnZ posted...I sold it to a TC member with a 69Z. :)
