Have a 69' Camaro X-77 with an engine with a "DZ" engine code and casting number 3956618 but cannot find a partial vin anywhere. Were all 69' 302 engines stamped with a partial vin? If not, how can you tell if it is the original engine?

Yes, all post 68 engines were stamped with a Partial VIN.
69's could be stamped in two (2) locations - look here for a write-up and information on finding it - http://www.camaros.org/drivetrain.shtml#PadStamps

What is the casting date on the block and what month was the car assembled?

Be extremely careful not to jack up the existing stamping looking for it!! I've taken some dark grease and wiped it across the casted area at the stamping with some success. Most of the time the stamping is very difficult to see down in that area.

If it's the original engine it will have the partial VIN stamped on it unless it's been decked.

To me it looks like the stamp reads V0525DZ (May 25th) or maybe it's a 03/25 (March 25th) but hard to tell, maybe someone can chime in and suggest if this is an original stamping. The partial vin will be located on the oil filter boss as noted in the above link by John. Looks like you are trying to confirm if this was the original engine for the car and if that is an 05/25 with a build date of 03E there might be a disconnect. It's not uncommon for these cars to run a second or third engine, most folks don't even look at these dates...just get something close to the build date and sell the car as a "period" correct engine.

We are going to need a better picture of the engine code stamp. Try using some lacquer thinner on a rag and use a scotch brite pad. Do NOT use anything abrasive.

Yes, I am trying to determine if this is the original engine. If the Engine Code is V0325-DZ it would match the Protecto Plate. I would like to find the engine build date as I have heard the engine codes are sometimes re-stamped.

Here is another picture of the engine code. Unfortunately, it has a scratch through it.

The engine build date is part of the stamping on the pad as pictured..

Casting date is back on the bellhousing flange, back of the block, below the distributor on passenger side. Hard to see. You will need to have your head near the firewall and look straight down.

Already stated above, but casting date will probably look like B 15 9 or similar.

I would really like to see that stamping cleaned up, thinner or something. It looks like the block was decked, and they stopped as they were hitting the numbers,. the 10-12
inch circle looks like it was being decked?

Code for the rear housing, C49 (March 4th, 1969)
Matches your build date nicely!!
We will help you with the block casting date as soon as you can post a picture of it.
Should be around C199

Are you playing games???

That looks like a casting date from a rear axle.

Do you have the engine to look at or not???

I am out of the country on business and the car is stored in Houston at a location where I also store some other cars. I bought it sight unseen on the recommendation of a friend. I am trying to get that same friend to go by the storage location to get a pic of the block casting date and partial vin. I had asked for these previously but don't think he knew where to find them.

The transmission matches perfectly, including a partial vin on the tranny. Has correct carb, intake & exhaust manifolds, etc.

Only question is whether or not it is a matching engine. Will post pictures when I receive them from my friend.

Have your friend use a small 2"x21/2" mirror and plant himself as far up the passenger fender as he can. The mirror goes down the back of the block right beside the distributor. Use a good light also and the alfa/numeric number is down about 3" from the top of the block.

Everyone on this site has offered good suggestions and they are much appreciated. My friend should be able to find the casting date and partial vin with the information provided.

I am trying to get Jerry MacNeish to inspect the car in May when he has some other inspections to do in the area and was hoping to know more about the engine before then.
