I am going to start by apologizing if some of this doesn't make sense, I am started my journey on rebuilding a '68 Camaro and getting help along the way. I am copying what I was told to ask here so hopefully it makes sense. The rear end that I currently have is a 10 bolt 8.2" 28 spline non-posi rear end. Ultimately would like to get a posi/non-slip carrier and rebuild kit to allow the original rear end to work. Does anyone know the correct place to find a posi carrier for this set up?

Chevy 8.2 differentials -2 series carriers do not exist in the aftermarket world (ratios 2.56 & 2.73). Chevy 8.2 -3 series have a lot of options for aftermarket posi carriers (ratios 3.08 - 4.11). Keep in mind the BOP (Buick Olds, Pontiac 8.2 10 bolt), is a different, unique diffential. The 8.2 Chevy -2 series posis are extremely, rare to find an original Eaton -2 series posi today. In part because in 1967 if you ordered a 2.56 or 2.73/8.2/10 bolt differentaI Chevrolet automatically gave you a 12 bolt differential. I searched nation wide for 2 years and found a total 2 used -2 series carriers both in need of overhaul. Finally found an overhauled -2 eaton offered by a professional differential shop.

Once you know what gears you have it will be obvious which direction to go. If you have 3.08 or higher numerical gears you are in luck.

Camaros.org has a lot of the details you need regarding part numbers and inter-changeability of components in their differential section.

Summit, and other performance part suppliers, carry LS diff and gears for the 8.2 three series rear end. I have the Eaton LS

While OP's car could have anything (gear ratio) in it now, the #'s stamped on the front side (passenger) of the axle housing will show what the car came with.

To determine what gear ratio a non posi has now, jack rear tires off ground. With car in neutral and parking brake off rotate PS tire 2 times and count how many times the DS rotates. A little over 3 revolutions of DS would be 3:08 as an example. Best to mark drive shaft with chalk or something so you can see how many turns.

Steven this info may help you from Camaros.org I believe. The 10 bolt chart is for the Chevy 8.2 & 12 bolt ring & pinions.

More from same source, regarding carriers.

This is the 8.2 -2 series posi carrier you would need. Good luck on your search! This is my final project, hoping to install soon.
