i have a stock 98 camaro z28 121,000 miles, everytime i drive it and i accelerate i hear a rattleing comming from the engine, i thought it may be just that it had low oil so i did an oil change and i still hear the noise. i took it to the shop and they couldnt find anythig wrong with it. if anyone knows or thinks they know what the problem might be please let me know.

My 1998 LS1 has 80,000miles, and every LS1 and LS6 I have owned has had some unique noises that sounded like "sewing machine" noises to me when idling.

The rattling upon acceleration could be detonation or spark knock, but any good mechanic could detect spark knock right away, either by listening, or you will see the ECM pulling timing if he/she would have Autotap or a scan tool.

Noises are a funny thing....when you hear one you start focusing on it until it is all you can hear!

I'd go to another shop. The easiest way to 'see' if the knock sensing system is working is to view the timing marks with a timing light and tap the block with a hammer.

The knock sensor should pick up the 'knocks' and the timing will retard as shown by the timing light. No retard, bad knock sensor or broken wiring for same.
