My understanding was the 4K was available starting around the 3rd week in April. Somewhere on a site i was told that the earliest DOC about these cars was sent to the dealerships on March 27,1967 that this option was available. The vin tag number is close with this timing but the cowl tag does not jive.
Please correct me with any info i have stated.
Also my cowl tag is 50 numbers past my vin. Was told that this is right that the vin was stamped first.

My old documented 4P L78 was built later than this car...04B, NOR 107984, VIN 7N207927, T0405MQ...

Yes sir...by the way, the dealer that has the blue one on ebay wants $75K for it!!!

Personally, I'd like to see the tag and pad before calling it a fake since it is very, very close to my old car. I had originally asked the seller for these pics but when he told me the price I told him not to waste his time sending the pics. Hopefully, the seller will post the pics on the ad anyway...

I was thinking along this line as well Charlie, but if you have all the docs and the past owners, the car should stand on its own I would think? Seems like a lot of trouble to go through?? I do hope we all get some answers to the mystery surrounding this one.

Did anyone ask why the speedo/tach surrond and the lower steering column cover are black? No big deal --I guess--cracked,broke or missing.

I agree with you Mark, this is not a $75k car, no way! Steve's old survivor car when it was on ebay a while back when the market was a lot better didn't make it there. This car is not even close to the quality of Steve's tahoe turquoise 07B car! I know a lot about Steve's old car because it is just a few vins after mine:)

You "experts" should know what you are talking about before you down this car. This is a REAL 396/375 because I have spoken to the original owner and at least five other people who knew this car. You "experts" are putting everything on Zedder who might have had a real car-did he talk to the original owner of his or did he have the ORIGINAL POP. This is a real car, I am 100% sure of this one. How many of you "experts" can say that!

Well there you go then - he has absolute verbal documentation that it's real -What could we know - and how many of us are constantly fooled by that bothersome factory paperwork and provenance
You guys stop upsetting Chucky now :p

ps: Mark or Phil, if either of you can confirm the last number(s) in the VIN in your talks please PM me ...

Perhaps you should read what I have written in this thread before pointing fingers...I'm the one who said that I WOULDN"T call this car a fake without more investigation!!! And for your info...yes, my old car has the original POP and I spoke to ALL the owners of the car including the original owner as did the owner after me. Oh and that other "expert" CLILL up above....owns the original 4P L78 Pace Car that actually PACED the race...so he might know a thing or two about the early L78's also :)

Moreover, I am working with the owner of the blue car currently to HELP him confirm that it is REAL because that is what I am tending to believe after comparing dates etc. to my old red car's data. The motor date is one day off, the tranny date is bang on, and the rear end date and code are bang on. I find it hard to believe that a previous owner could have picked these dates out of thin air and had them match a car built within a day or so that closely. However, the fact remains that the tag has been off of this car and other cars built in this time frame have been 4P cars.

OK, First NO one here Talked down about the CAR , It SHOT A RED FLAG because the trim tag was removed from the car and the 4k should should be a 4P for the build date of the car as history shows for these cars. The pictures that are on E-bay are set so far back to make one wonder the Authenticity of the car. I talked to the seller today very nice person and explained to him about the red flag. He told me that he is 100% curtain that the car is real and the POP as well. He also said that he can see the trim tag was removed, but thats the way he got it, and the Original owner is still around to verify the car. And last since you talked to Six owners does anyone remember removing the TAG? or is the TAG 100% REAL can we get a close pic thanks phil

I decided to add to this one. I posted a question on this very subject maybe a year or so ago, maybe longer. Something to the effect of "First L78 4P or 4K?" This was active for weeks with talk and replys one gentlemen was getting pretty upset over the 4P on Charlie's pace car, which by the way I know is 100% real. ( Every time I went to Dan Young Chevrolet through the 80's I would always go and look at this car. I started working there in the early 90's and combed every inch of this car on numerous occasions. I have a bunch of pictures of this rare pace car from the early 90's somewhere, but since my divorce in 04 my ex says she cant find them.) We all talked and shared info on this thread and I was satisfied with the outcome.

This car shows up and has a 4K tag on it that has clearly been removed, and it does not take a expert to see this!! It is build wise in between 2 other 4p L78's, am I right on this? All of us who own now or have owned REAL L78,s and do know some history on these cars obviously are going to discuss this car and the logistics surrounding it. For more than one reason, to find out more about the 4P to 4k switch and history that we all love about our cars, to be armed with as much real info as possible, and lets face it we all like to share stories and just enjoy the comradely that owning one of these cars provides.

I don't know if this car is real or not and in todays world I'm not just going to take your word for it. I hope it is a real car! I would love to see another original on the books! and Im sure PHIL, MARK,Charliex2,Dave,KERRY and the rest of us who own these cars will agree. With the "HONESTY" issue-- I don't see anyone calling anyone a liar here, just questions. Unfortunately because everyone does not automatically welcome this car in as being a real car yet it would appear that honesty is in question. Thats the world we live in, PERIOD! To many people getting burned on these cars these days!!

I'm going to go through this same thing if I ever decide to sell my 4K (I have had her for over 15 years) My car was a stolen and recovered in a chop shop along with about fifteen other cars. Fortunately they did not get to far on it before it was recovered. My tag was removed also but was in the car lying on the floorboard (thank the Lord!)when I got it home, along with every other part they had taken of the car. This is the story on my car and it is what it is.

IMOP, Some things that would help on the ad, better pics of trim tag, why cut off the important data in the pic of the POP?, its there and the vin# is no big secret obviously. Pic of the tranny date and should have the vin# there as well. Pic of the assembly date and vin on the engine pad. I beleive someone else asked if all the previous owners are accounted for and alive along with the guy who did the resto there should be some explanations on this tag being removed.

Please don't take this the wrong way, It is so easy to take words on paper and take them as a personal attack sometimes. None of that here!

Now that's better Chuck. I've asked Jack for a shot of the pad. I wish the fellow who restored it would have painted the stripe the correct color and did a little better job on the detailing and interior. It's a neat car, but still needs a fair amount of work to make it right. If the pad looks good, I'd definitely be interested at the right price...

Chuck, do you know why the tag was taken off of the car? Is it the original motor, tranny and rear with original stampings? Thanks,

A really cool car if it turns out to be real. To bad it needs another 10K + to make it right after its already been so called restored. I don't recall any 4K coupe even coming close to 75K
