I have a 67 SB 350 with an oridinal A/C system but the compressor was taken off the car by the previous owner and I don't have any of the brackets that attach to the engine. I do have the compressor and brackets that attach to it.

How do you recommend I mount my original A/C compressor now that I have headers? The bracket that mounted to the exhaust manifold no longer fits but the headers came with a bracket for the rear of the compressor. What about the front?

I still need to get the front bracket that attaches to the water pump. Will that one be OK without the bracket that mounts to the manifold? I think I will also need the front adjusting bracket that crosses over the top of the water pump. Do I also need the rear adjusting bracket that attaches somewhere on the intake manifold? I do not have any of those brackets. The AIM isn't very clear on the rear attachment point to the intake manifold. I thnk a picture would really help me. Thanks.

Here is a picture of the common SBC brackets -

"A" = bracket is the upper manifold unit that bolts to the upper compressor adjustment (and stabilizer) strap.
"B" = pivot/adjustment bracket that bolts to compressor for adjustment
"C" = bracket that bolts to water pump and then above bracket
"D" = adjustment bracket for upper front compressor mount

The "A" bracket is bolted to the 1st and 2nd manifold bolts on the passenger side.
It straddles the water feed area.

The lower mount that was originally bolted to the exhaust manifold will need to be modified to clear and mount to the header flange.
Normally this involves some grinding to clear and then spacers to take up the excess area of the flange vs. the exhaust manifold casting thickness.
A mount can also be fabricated by nearly any talented metal man ...

The 'repoppers' sell most of these.
You can sometimes find these from other Chevys in wrecking yards - trucks used the same brackets also.

Another source would be 'Classic' Auto Air - http://www.classicautoair.com/GM_OEM_Parts.html
They can supply a compressor upgrade kit or parts to mount your original compressor.

Hope this helps

Is originality a concern ? If not you can use brackets, that are made by Alan Grove.

A '67 would be a short water pump, with the a/c mounted on the passenger side.

John - Thanks for the picture. I can find everything I need except the bracket that bolts to the upper (intake) manifold in area "A" of your picture. The rear adjusting strap attaches to it. Any idea where I might find that one? Are they common enough that a junk yard might have it?

I think I have the brackets needed out in my storage shed. I'll let you know what I find. I know I have a short water pump a/c unit with brackets out there.

Tom - Thanks for the offer but yesterday afternoon I bought brackets C, D and E in your pictures. I have all the others. Everyone seems to sell C and E. Bracket D is the difficult one to find. I finally found one at Camaro Central.

Can you tell if the brackets were gloss black or semi-gloss black? I have another thread going in the Restoration section and no one seems to know the finish on them.

Once you find that rear mani brace/bracket you'll start noticing them all over the place, usually at lower prices. Been there, done that

FWIW, I'll PM you with some survivor pics I have. They pretty much confiim what Tom's bracket have - semi gloss.
