Any theories on where everybody went?

Ive been here 15 years and have never seen the boards like this. There used to be tons of activity. Now all I hear is crickets. Are we sick of talking about Camaros?

OK, I'll start. Winter's over, most wrenching and upgrades are done. Show circuit has begun with 2 - 1st place trophies. :hurray: C'mon guys...who's next for bragging rights! :stirpot:

Part of the problem is a perceived hostility. When someone post "hey how do I...?" and the first few replies are "been discussed before go use the search function."

Doesn't really promote a sense of open community does it?
New comers don't feel very welcome, old timers have moved on, as time goes on the place will just be an archive. Only here to search up an answer to a question someone asked back in 2004 or something.

Yeah, I always thought that a little rude, too. A better approach would be to post a few links for them to threads instead. I think the slow down is due to a couple reason. One being the weather is nicer and people aren't on here as much. The second being most questions that could possibly be asked have already been asked, and some beat to death. Part of the natural progression and maturing of any site. Just my theory, though.

I notice it too... Lots of old timers have drifted away and being one that has stuck around it's hard to keep rehashing the same subjects/issues.

Also a lot of threads die right after self appointed "set the record straight" types jump in. I really haven't seen a lot of the "do a search" but when it comes up it is a detractor as well.

The site reports over 1000 online right now with 90 actual logged in so that's a good amount of traffic but not a lot of folks posting... There are only 12-13 threads having been updated since I was on about 12 hrs ago. Yesterday I only saw 6-8 threads updated over about a 6 hr period. The week day daytime activity here shouldn't drop off too much because of warmer weather because most are at work.

I agree that the weather may have something to do with it. It's been a very long winter here in the northeast.
I've been on many sites like this one and true there are busy and very slow times of the year.
I still think of this site as a resource first, but also entertainment when I've got nothing else to do.
Stay positive, I see young guys as well as mid-lifers, some newbies, and others here asking the right questions.

I think weather - the good and the bad - in the lower 48 since last fall has had an effect everywhere across the country, across all aspects of our lives. The economic factors such as no spare funds for toys and projects, as well as general lack of free time weather related stress causes has a ripple effect in our community. I spent a fortune this winter on heat, snow clearing, winter related equipment repair and misery.

I know I'm not alone and have been trying to just enjoy some down time where I'm not prepping for a storm or cleaning up after one. But plenty of folks have to worry every night that a thunderstorm will become deadly so just because New England is out of the spotlight, there is plenty of bad weather across the rest of the nation to effect traffic here.

We have our busy days and the quiet days here at TC, there are also great threads everyone whats to read and participate in, and others where you read it and say I have no idea if it was a question, statement or boast.

As for decorum, we stepped up patrols and weeded out several jack-wagons a few months back so we hope those members who felt uncomfortable posting for fear of being unfairly lit up by a jack-hole-know-it-all will come out this spring and talk about their Camaros and post some pictures of their winter projects.

Just my take.

X2 Brian!

Around here, winter turned to summer really quickly! Getting all the vehicles ready for warmer weather, Lawn maint, pool (soon), Family obligations all take their toll. Once that settles out people will be back (hmm, sounds like that Iowa baseball movie :))

For me work got insanely busy, the Camaro is running really, really well and I just haven't had a moment to get on here more than 10 minutes tops in the past week.

I can't say much for others, but with work keeping me overseas and a complete house remodel/add on that I am trying to finish up hasn't left much time to do much. Took a layoff recently so going to finish up the house, then start on the Camaro jig/ Camaro. There are several threads to provide answers for most of what I'll have questions about, but still may have a few. Plus, everyone likes pictures of tear downs and rebuilds.

Personally, I have several sites that I skim thought daily, this being one of them. For me, my kids are now in the "busy years" - middle school - which means they have a lot of activities going on. In fact, I got sucked into coaching volleyball for them, which is a big drain on my time, but I wouldn't trade the time that I spend with them for anything in the world. Before I know it, they will be grown up and out on their own, and then I will have plenty of time to turn wrenches on the Camaros - that is, if I have any money left to spend on them! ;) Well, at least TC will still be there, and it's free. :)

No doubt, it's a lot slower. Especially in the performance section.
I have been here quite awhile and have seen it over the last 3-4 years, Autoforums turned it into a really commercial place, it definitely does not have the same feel as when Al ran the place.

My independent observation, the Camaro site has become more like the NCRS guys it seems. Worried about the color of the bolt holding the cap on the rear differential.... Not that there is anything wrong with that, but there is more of that than ever. Way too uptight in many cases, arguing about the originality of a car they don't or can't own anyway.
The performance section is pretty weak now, guess lots of guys are just restoring now, don't know. That's where I noticed it first.

The keyboard Cowboys are all over the 'net, espousing their knowledge and expertise and usually without tact. I don't see that here more than any other site. It's relatively tame.

I still come here because I like Camaros and there are some good guys on here still, but I spend time over on more technical sites more often.

I couldn't have said it any better Sean. :beers:

Well I've only been to one show this year and didn't win so... It was a crowded class and I think the votes were based on displacement rather than cool factor. Mine is a bit unique and until I add a turbo I'm not winning any power wars (unless it's against 327's).

Ah, c'mon George...say it ain't so! You need to come north and join us PA guys. :D

Show season has been off to a slow start around here. Still have not prepped and waxed her yet :( The two I went to were small and I left early (no sense getting those run of the mill trophys :)) Put I have to get her ready for some bigger shows this year! Just need to find the time with doing a full kitchen remodel!

But the Central NJ cruise/show calendar I maintain is pretty full!

I'm a relative newcomer to the site since purchasing my car...tried to do as much research as possible on several subjects to educate myself...purchased CD's with AIM's and other such information...visited other sites for decoding numbers stuff and the like. When it's all said and done, I can honestly say "I've stuck my foot in my mouth more than once" because I believed everything I read. Turns out, the most expertise was right here and over at CRG. With the little knowledge that I now have, I find myself questioning people at shows on the authenticity of their cars. For instance, when I see an X11 car with a 396 BB, I cringe and say "are you sure about that"? Guess I do it instinctively without thinking of the repercussions. People actually get annoyed because they are unwilling to believe the car may be labeled incorrectly. I sold my 62 Vette because, in part, I grew weary of the numbers matching people and all the negative comments made about my super modified Corvette. Now, I find myself in the other guys shoes trying to fix what's wrong. Damn, I just can't win but I do enjoy the Camaro much better! :hurray:

Many years ago we had a thread on what wasn't correct on your car. I found it easier to list those few items on mine that were correct. Frankly, I don't care what someone does to their car or whether or not it's correct. I very much come to this board from the hot-rodding end of the hobby, rather than the collecting end.

It would be a shame if the board as a whole became less tolerant of all aspects of our Camaro automotive hobby. After all, our cars have more in common with each other than not.

Interesting question; I admit that traffic has felt a tiny bit dead recently. I've only been around three years so I don't know what it once was, however. I wonder if the community is splintering into restoration-focused and pro-touring-focused camps? I don't really fit either, which perhaps is why I prefer this site. Despite the occasional "use the search function" comment, it IS a friendlier site than some alternate ones within the community, and it feels like there is more appreciation for the honest, driver-quality cars that will never win a show or a race. I really hope some of the "older" (or at least more experienced) guys will stick around and stay active, because as a "younger" guy I don't have years of experience with gen I SBCs or metal work to lean on. I can't count how many times a late night emergency has been saved by an old thread describing how to free and remove a stuck trans crossmember, correctly adjust a shifter, the right combination of parts to clooge together to fit a late Muncie into an earlier car, identify the quirks in a '67 wiring harness, etc. These just aren't things the AIM or factory service manual address, and they aren't things you can necessarily buy an (expensive) solution for from a vendor. This site definitely adds something to the community, and also provides a little motivation to keep going when the pile of parts looks bigger than the car!

well sometimes the mods can/will piz people off. I remember posting pictures of a sanctioned burnout contest. my pictures were deleted. shortly after a member posted a picture of a burn out on the street. I asked why mine where deleted. I was told mine wasn't cool, but his was.
I asked if anyone used a backup camera in their first generation. well I was told if I needed a camera I shouldn't be driving a first generation
the thing of it is I am probably older than most here and the replies I got I just considered the source, but the younger generation may feel hurt when they get shi--y replies

Wow! I have been working on collecting parts for just that.

Just for fun, nothing more.

Post #42. So threads about 'not much activity' seem to create activity.
