i currently have a 12 bolt posi with 4.11 gears, and a 3 spd 350 turbo trans.....at 70mph its taching 3,500 rpms, and its killing me:(

wanting to have a set of 3.31's or something put in, but dont know what brand would be best...ie fit the best, best quality, no noise...

thanks alot

All of the 3.31 gears are going to be used GM gears. There are no aftermarket 3.31 gears. The closest thing to the 3.31 is the 3.42. I've used Yukon and US Gear with the least amount of trouble. I've been selling Yukon for several years now and they have been pretty consistant on quality.

i've seen Yukon gears on ebay and wandered if they were any good

i have a guy locally that will set up my gears for me for about $200, so i'll prob have around $500 total in changing gears....if i got a 700 or 200r4, one of those would cost me around $1200 plus a few hundred in installation and at least $200 in misc costs

maybe i'll just cross my fingers and wait for a nice oem set of 3.42's or 3.31's, hopefully i'll be able to find a set

3.42 was never offered in the car 12 bolt from the factory. All 3.42 gears are after market.

Gears $170, installation kit $92, shipping $30, labor $200 = 492. Add $30 for axle bearings and selas and you are at $522. If the axles are bad and need to be replaced then add $180 for $702 plus a little more for shipping.

If you happen to have a 4 series posi with that 4.11 gear then you are going to have to replace it with a 3 series. Add $415 to the price of parts, plus a little more for shipping.

Motive gears were made in Italy, but they moved production to Korea and the quality went way down. If your Motive Gear was made in Italy then it's good. If it was made in Korea then it's probably junk. The Motive Gear made in Italy that has been in the back of my truck has worked very well for about 11 years and around 100,000 miles.
