Black taillight bezels?

What do you think about this? The taillight bezels on the 68 Camaro I'm building look like crap. I do powdercoating on the side, so I was thinking of knocking them down and spraying them in semi-gloss black.

What do you guys think?

Well, worst case scenario I need to buy new chrome ones, and then I'm right back where I started since the ones I have are junk. It'll be hard to judge now since the car is in various stages of black primer and crappy orange paint.

Bryan, I confess. I've never cared for the chrome of the 68 bezels and am looking forward to your work.

Did a little work on the taillights tonight. The bezels were in terrible shape and were rusted and pitted. The pictures make it look a lot better than is actually is, but it still came out pretty good. I'm a perfectionist when it comes to my powdercoat, so I'm going to block same it to take out some of the small runs and bumps and lay a second coat on it to see if it will fill some of the pits. I'm going to go tomorrow to pick up some stainless hardware for the back of it, too. I changed the lenses from the stockers to a set of LEDs that MuscleRodz hooked me up with.

So it went from this:

Nice! But red paint?! I like your orange!

The orange paint on this car is horrible, it's got more orange peel than shine and looks like it was painted with exterior house paint.

And as much as I LOVE Hugger Orange cars, my brother-in-law always wanted a red Camaro like his mom's old one, so we're gonne give him that. :)

This may be a stupid Question but the pair I have for my 67 are in bout the same shape, and I have yet to spring for a repopped pair.

Did you have to remove chrome completly before powder coating ?

Thanks

No, you don't have to remove chrome completely before spraying powder, unless the chrome is peeling. Luckily in my case the chrome was intact, but it was just rusted and pitted. I knocked it down with some coarse sandpaper on the Dremel and then finished it off with some sandblasting. It was fairly smooth before I sprayed it, but the powder showed a lot of smaller pits. I think a second coat will fill them in, though.
