A year and a half ago, my father passed away and left me with his original SS396 Lemans blue 4 speed car. So because the car sat in probate for a year, a certain Classic Insurance company (American Collectors out of NJ) told me that I wouldnt have to pay the premium until it comes out of probate, but the vehicle would still be insured and we could square up later.. Fine with that.. No problem. So I get everything settled with his estate, and finally make the call to square up. Im told that since he is no longer the owner of the car, we would have to insure it in your name. Once again, no problem. We start the paperwork and she asked me how my driving record looked. Three years was what they went back to. I told her excellent, no tickets, and she pulls it. After seeing the hellraising I did as a younger man, she informs me she cant insure me. So now the car has no insurance on it and what makes it worse, I drove it to work today! Scramble mode engaged!!! So I called Hagerty, figuring that at least they may be able to give me some mercy, without the pics, because I have them at home. She assured me it would be ok and they only went back 5 years for the driving record. So I tell her the current situation, (no insurance) and she tells me "Oh sorry, your driving record has to many violations." There was a long repetitave string of vulgarisms that may damage even the filthiest of souls, if repeated here, so Ill just leave it at that. Needless to say, I then called GRUNDY... Now when I say 180, I mean ONE HUNDRED EIGHTY DEGREES. Tell her the current situation, plus the fact Ive never seen insurance companies or people for that matter so uneager to take someones money and she goes on to inform me, that not only do I have 100k coverage across all the boards for minimums, Agreed value coverage, ZERO deductible, Unlimited mileage up to 25k a year, business and pleasure (meaning WORK, SUNDAY DRIVE, OUT TO DINNER and CRUISE INS) and a three day "Inspection period" so the vehicle is covered until I get it home!!!!! All for $251!!! PER YEAR!!!! SIGN ME UP. She sends me the paperwork, and a three day temp insurance card for agreed value of the car. So, If you have never thought about Classic car insurance CALL GRUNDY... That is where its at... and that is all...

What is your agreed value ?

This goes to show how your "hell raising days" can come back and haunt you
I was one also (back in the day) but got my act together long before I got my Camaro (or even thought I could ever own one). With getting married and all the "house bills" I couldn't afford to "have fun" like that anymore...$3000 a year for just liability on a rust bucket will put a damper on things

Glad you got Ins. coverage :hurray:

Wow, i have to check around for quotes. I have Hagerty and when I increased my stated value from 22K to 35K this year, my premium went up $154. A few years ago I added an umbrella policy with my regular car insurance, they required me to also upgrade the optional liability with Hagerty to 250K-500K, but even that didn't raise the rates as much as adding 13k in agreed upon value. When my policy comes up for renewal, I'm definitely going to get a quote from Grundy.
