Hi guys, here's my current combo:

355 small block, 9.8 to 1 compression, Sportsman 2 heads (bowl blend, pocket ported, 2.02, 1.6 valves), 1.52 roller rockers, Performer RPM manifold, 750 vac secondary Holley, Comp Cams 280H cam.

I'm looking to get a bit more top end out of this engine as the car is built primarily for vintage road racing and it runs out of puff at about 6K. Could somebody please desktop dyno this combination and then try it with the compression ratio raised to 10.2 to 1 and a Comp Cams 294 solid fitted. I could bump the compression with a thinner head gasket as Comp Cams website says I need at least 10 to 1 with this cam. I'd love to see what numbers this makes and what shape the torque curve is compared to my existing cam.

Also, has anyone run with the 294S in a 350 and is there enough vacuum for power brakes?

Thanks in advance.........

69RR,

Although I am a drag racer, I had a similar combination... 355 with 10:1, Sportsman IIs with mild porting, Comp 294S, Weiand Team G intake and a Holly 3310 carb. The motor was a dog on the low end but came alive over 4000. I usually revved it to 6800 on motor but it would pull to 7 or more...

I have non power drums so I can't help you with the brakes...

I if your car has a 4.11 or higher and you spend most of your time in the higher reves I think the cam would be good, but if your coming off the corners at 3000 rpm then you might want to go a little lower. Just my .02.

I have almost the same setup,355ci, 294s cam, dart iron eagle heads, performer rpm manifold, 750 holley, 11 to 1 pistons, but I have 4;56 gears in the rear end it'll get up and go when you punch it and the cam sounds really good with a pretty hard lope to it. I was really pleased with the overall performance of the cam, but then again I stay in high rpm's with a 4;56 gear but I don't ever push it past 6500 rpm's.

I'll use Iron eagles in place of your sportsmans unless you can supply with the flow numbers from your sportsmans.
right now DD2k says with the 280H cam you have:
413 HP at 6000rpms
402 TQ at 4500rpms/ 345TQ at 2000rpms

with the 294S:
442 HP at 6500rpms
419 TQ at 5000rpms/ 350TQ at 2000rpms (gain over the hydra, so gains across the band, sounds good to me)

Now i think you want a higher top end charge (4000+rpms) you should switch to a Vic JR manifold
here's the dyno pull with that:
483 HP at 6500rpms
441 TQ at 5000rpms/ 325 TQ at 2000rpms

Definately get a Vic Jr with that cam. That cam will want to run to 6500+
