I have a 468 with hydraulic roller cam, 10.25 CR, and Hooker headers. I'm looking at one of the following:
* Speed Demon 750
* Edelbrock 800 EPS
* Holley 870 Avenger

I'll drive 99% on the street. Any recommendations?

I have a Road Demon and it's the best carburetor I've ever owned, and I don't think I could own any other. It's such a smooth performing carb. A friend who drove my car actually asked if I installed fuel injection (it's that good!). I've used the Edelbrock 750 carbs before, and I like them, but they still don't compare. Demons look bitchin' too! Click my link below to see mine.

demons are the sh!t. they look good and perform better.my 750 speed demon DP has incredible throttle response, and just runs incredibly well. there's another post running on this subject in performance, check it out.

For your application, the new Edelbrock will be the one that dynos the best as well as meters better in the primary for gas milage (not that you care) and perform better on the street.

I like the Demons, they look good, the work reasonalbly well, but they do not meter as good as the Edelbrocks, just like the Holleys. This translates to throttle response, fuel mixing at differing throttle settings and milage. And for those of you that poke fun at the want for good milage, actually this translates to cleaner burning chambers, valves, plugs, and ports, making for a more consistent power producing engine over the long haul. I know too many out there that just accept the fact that there plugs foul every few hundred miles...me thinks they need a new tuner.

I dyno Demons agains Holleys against Edelbrocks on differing combos all the time and see alot of things that work and don't. Believe me, the 468 will need all the CFMs that you can give it and will perform better from a "street throttle" position on the AFB in my humble opinion. They are not as fancy looking tho.....

HOTRODSRJ:

I read that you do lots of dynos and so on differnt engines.

Which carb do you recommend for my setup:
*327cid, mild comp cam(named 350hk or something)
*ported camel hump heads
*Weiand Action Plus intake
*soon to install headers
*maximum 5500rpm
*TH350 with a 2400rpm stall
*cowlinduction?? if it matters

Does a 600cfm Holley 4160 do it?
I have a Rochester Q-jet on it now with 750 cfm and seams to have little trouble with it.

Would be greatful if you had some knowlegde of this kind of Mild setup from your dynotests.

I bought the road demon 625 a few months after released. They may have improved on it since then, but I have not gotten the demon dialed in perfectly as of yet.

This is my first carb on my first engine project, so obviously I am not an expert...

The settings out of the box were way off: choke, butterflies, float and idle mixture. The carb seems to run rich...my idle mixture screws are less than one turn out, and the floats are re-set pretty low. I have noticed others that have the same syptoms as mine...

My setup is a 327 SB with ported vortec heads, performer RPM, and a generic 268 cam. I have heard good things about the new Edelbrock thunder AVS...I am going to stick it out with the Demon, but if I were to do it again...

ethan, the road demons are the ones i've heard need idle air bleed adustment (different size), if idle and off idle is the problem, i'd check into this. call demon and pick thier brain about it. good luck, once you get it dialed in, you'll love it
